The biggest thing I saw on the webs that people are upset about (and this seems a legitimate criticism).....why are the Betazoids using sign language. They are....literally telepathic (not to be confused with Deanna Troi's emphatic nature for being a half-betazoid.) They can literally talk in each others minds!

The president (her father) is deaf.

just saw Episode 1 and I liked it.

I didnt like Discovery so not up on the Burn or such (though I take it it was an apocalyptic even that destroyed the old Academy and much of the federation?)

I like the character stories so far - Calebs drama looking for his mother was an interesting way to start him as a rebellious genius. I like the idea of a Klingon Med Student and the rest of the crew too, though I do hope that dont end up being "school clique" cliches. I even liked Sam being annoying, she comes off a bit Autism-coded so I wonder if that was intentional, though I've never understood how 'holograms' worked as 'people'.

Funnily enough when the Khionian guy turned metal to go and walk on the hull, I couldnt help thinking of them as something of a superhero team - like X-Men Academy - especially when you add Sam interfacing with computers and Calebs various 'skills'. Not sure what Genesis can do yet, but it does seem she is captain material (and the most compelling actor of the cadets too)

I agree the robots were a bit jarring and Cadet Masters shouting unnecessary.
