Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Season 3 Viewing (Spoilers)

I'd argue Lower Decks actually broke the dry spell.

Too many people dismiss it as just a cartoon or just going for laughs. But, IMO, it holds up as one of the better Trek series overall, certainly much more consistent than Discovery and as good as Strange New Worlds.
Lower Decks is my favorite NuTrek, followed by Picard season 3 (mostly nostalgia), then SNW.

Picard season 3 was pretty good. But the first 2 seasons, especially the second drag that average WAY down. The problem was clearly that they just didn't really know where to go with the new characters, or the overall plot.

It's not really my cup of tea, but I'll concede Lower Decks is a brighter point of the franchise. I can't really say why I'm ambivalent towards it- I really liked Those Old Scientists! There's even great bits, like canonizing Chief O' Brien as the most important member of Starfleet!

But I find it hard to sit down and watch the show, alas. I've also heard good things about Prodigy, but I've yet to see any of it. For me, Strange New Worlds makes me happy to be a Star Trek fan again.

Prodigy is a bit more kid oriented, but it is quite good. It even manages to do a better job with Chakotay than Voyager ever did!

I also wish they hadn't bothered with the Metron angle. I thought it didn't add anything and actually made the ending hit less than it would.
I agree with you, though I guess they did it for continuity to connect to later events, but it does weaken the payoff a bit.

Overall great episode though, glad to have some serious drama brought back into this season

Watching ep 9 now.

Tiny detail but I love that Ortegas has model WW2 planes in her room.

Division 12? Is that a new thing? Are they Starfleet’s version of the X-Files?

Hey! They’re exploring a new section of space!

How is there any atmosphere on that barren rock let alone breathable air? Especially if it gets sucked through the outer atmosphere of the gas giant once per orbit.

So this Gorn is different and is helping Ortegas survive (and overcome her trauma)?

I like that this episode humanizes the Gorn a bit.

How do the humans know how to use Gorn technology so easily?

That was quite a sad ending. Reminds me of Empire of the Sun.

I don’t know who the Metrons are. I’ll have to google them.

The Metrons are from the original series episode "Arena", that introduced the Gorn. As the Gorn fled, after destroying the Federation colony, the Metrons halted both the Gorn ship, and the Enterprise, in space. They then transported Kirk and the Gorn captain to a planet, with a livable atmosphere, to fight it out. One of the Metrons spoke to Kirk in the exact same way as this one spoke to Ortegas, at the end of the episode.

As La'an showed us in an earlier episode this season, anyone who has been traumatized by the Gorn develops an almost instinctual level of familiarity with their..... hehe no it doesn't make any sense but its the 2nd time we have been showed starfleet people just able to "figure it out"

They all took levels of "Xeno Technology" during character development.
