The gand was actually planning to butt-in on the office conversation with his 'coffee' masterplan, don't you know.

This gand is sure that the Gran was just acting and he was very interested in the droid, way more then the rest of you (including the Jedi whom he noticed). You are not 100% why he did not talk though as it seemed to draw undo attention to himself

I'm working on fleshing out my background a bit more, I'm thinking former slave rescued by some Jedi and brought before the council to get the whole "the force is strong with this one" shtick
