I am suprised no topic has been made about this yet. SG-1 was hilarious, better than most comedies. It was the best episode this season. Atlantis was great too, continuing its good start.

It was a bit choppy, but nice to see how O'Neill is settling into his command. The plant was a nifty complication and they had lots of good tie-ins (Baal, the ZPM, the other Goa'uld...).

Atlantis was an interesting take on things. They messed with gate physics a bit, but the character interactions made it worthwhile. Weir got to show some authority, that scientist-guy was a jerk (I expect he'll turn traitor at some point), and we see how some of our main characters deal with a high-stress situation.

me3!!! he's got all the traitor qualities ... er, at least that weasley "I hate anyone who think's they're in charge" look

I liked SG-1 better than Atlantis this week, partly because I think they screwed up the gate physics. Does the gate now magically only open for 1 hour, well 47 minutes, to match the time limit on a one hour show? Or was this previously stated? And the "everything goes in as one piece" just doesn't work for me. But I did like seeing the puddle jumper getting stuck, that I could believe.

I enjoyed this Stargate episode (the odd things going on in the background with the plant were very entertaining). Also this ep had a few good quotes going for it.

Atlantis on the otherhand - if it keeps up like this I just don't see it lasting more than a season. A few things really grated on me.

1) Haven't they pretty much shown that the gate tends to pull things through? The episode of SG-1 where Teal'c passes Apophis' body through sure looked like it pulled the wrapped corpse through . . .

2) They can't keep having McKay piss everyone off - no matter how smart he is.

3) This is just a pet peeve of mine, but I'm pretty tired of the hysterical man (who must be only trying to save his own skin) who must be put in his place by the tough but sensitive female who is looking out for the good of everyone.

4) Oh, and I don't think he's gonna be a traitor - he came up with the method to get them through the gate - their gonna work something out, and he'll end up one of those infrequently vital support characters.

In some cases yes, and in some cases no. We've seen people/things be sheered off by the gate closing, but as you point out we've also seen it pull some things through. It's one of those weird inconsistencies with the show.

Atlantis was a bit dull this week, but I liked SG-1 a lot. Especially the letter at the end... "Never mind", and then he prints it out and signs it. :P We're definitely going to see Camulus again though...

As for Atlantis, I don't think it's going to be a traitor situation. Personally I think it's going to be a rebellion situation. Ten bucks says Wier faces another challenge to her authority next week by someone else.

It has been stated before that there is a time limit on how long the gates can stay open. I'm not sure it was 38 minutes then, but the concept isn't new.

I think it was used when Zo'kar was trying to assault SGC via the gate - he opened up the gate, used some sort of particle beam through it (which while it didn't blow up the iris, did manage to heat it up quite a lot) for as long as the gate lasted, and then reopened the gate to do it again. SGC tried to open up an outgoing wormhole as the gate was closed, but their jury-rigged system is apparently a lot slower than a DHD.

SG1 was fun I really enjoyed this episode. It shows Jack is going to be a rather different than Hammond.

As for Atlantis I have mixed feeling about the show. I like McKay and Shepard. Am neutral about Teyla and Ford. But I hate Weir I really do. She grates on me.

I really thought she was out of line the way she jumped down the throat of the head science guy. Firat of all he was right in pointing out possible dangers. A danger that McKay brought up later. Secondly she totally dismissed another culture's religious beliefs.

The character is supposed to be this great negotiator. When she was blond she seemed better at it than she does now that she is red haired :) She suddenly has no people skills.
