For all all cases, I would rather maximise than empower when I don't have to pay level costs.
Jdvn1 They're all once per day, but I don't remember the prereq's from memory. Except that Sudden Quicken has an amazing amount of prereq's.
The prerequisites for Sudden Empower and Sudden Maximize are the same. Sudden Maximize is generally superior to Sudden Empower, except in a very limited number of cases, where the effect of the spell is determined by adding a number (which may increase with caster level) to a die roll, e.g. the various mass cure and mass inflict spells. The catch is that Empower affects the added number, while Maximize does not. A mass cure light wounds from a 9th-level cleric heals 1d8+9 points of damage to each target. Maximized, it would heal a flat 8+9 = 17 points of damage. Empowered, it would heal (1d8+9)*1.5 = 15-25 points of damage, average 20. By the time the cleric hits 13th level, he is always better off empowering rather than maximizing his mass cure light wounds spell (21 vs 21-31 points).Stalker0 said:Curious....are the prereqs for the sunden maximise more than the sudden empower....or the number of times per day lower?
