Good post but a quick correction here, the 2024 DMG Greyhawk is 1e boxed set era map and timeframe pre-Greyhawk Wars reshaping of the setting. It also covers even more events that were added after the WoG boxed set than The Adventure Begins does, This includes the Greyhawk Wars, which reshaped the map into what's in the 2024 DMG now.
Wait, is that correct? The Great Kingdom is split there, which it was not pre-Wars. That's the largest political entity on the map, divvied up. Ahlissa, the Prelacy of Almor, and Medegia are shown as separate entities.Good post but a quick correction here, the 2024 DMG Greyhawk is 1e boxed set era map and timeframe pre-Greyhawk Wars reshaping of the setting.
No, the Great Kngdom is still there, but the different sub-areas are labeled, as they were originally for that matter. All of the political units that were eliminated in the Greyhawk Wars are back, and everyone is back to their 1980 borders.Wait, is that correct? The Great Kingdom is split there, which it was not pre-Wars. That's the largest political entity on the map, divvied up. Ahlissa, the Prelacy of Almor, and Medegia are shown as separate entities.
It seems like a strange hybrid of the two, but the landscape looks more like post-Wars than pre-Wars.
Does the DMG state that these are just subunits of the GK, or does it say they are separate states?

Look also to Iuz: the Cambions territory ia back to it's pre-Wars bounds, the Horned Society is back and with their pre-war borders, The Shield Lands are back to their pre-War borders, the Bandit Kingdoms are back to their pre-War territory, the Hunting Lamds (previously the Rovers of the Barrens) are back, etc.@Voadam appreciate the context thanks! Almor is on the LG Paizo map from Dungeon etc. iirc despite being in ruins, as is Medegia, so I'd assumed the inclusion of them showed either reconstructed or just labeled destroyed areas. I guess my confusion mainly came from the more distinct separation of the GK regions north and south, but your (very helpful) refefence to the maps helps me see that was always the case.
The idea was to give a complete but barebones tool for DMs: so, this is basically a re-do of the 1980 Folio, in the DMG.I guess I just find it hard to understand why a publisher would flush the excellent Sargent or Paizo material. I get players can feel tied to the plotlines of an era when they started and/or strongly dislike change of all sorts, but the company which generated all that excellent material chucking it out is pretty bizarre.
But with less information about troop numbers and kit?this is basically a re-do of the 1980 Folio
