I don't remember too many specifics at this time (played it in 93-94); but I do remember that I had far more fun playing it than almost any other game. EarthDawn was a big part of the reason I skipped 2E altogether.

I have to recommend the Earthdawn trilogy that begins with The Longing Ring, too. They were written by Christopher Kubasik, a RPG designer, and they showcase some of the history of the game and some of the neater aspects of the world. The novels are also really interesting investigations into the effect of domestic violence, though this aspect is not overt and is handled very well, IMO. Really one of the more literary set of fantasy novels.
