The Crux of the Matter

(OOC: You read it wrong. They are telling you that the maximum on the bonus is 10, not that there is an extra +10 bonus. So even a level 20 caster only gets 1d20 + 10 on Dispel Magic. That's why Rayne used Greater Dispel Magic. Trust me, it isn't even remotely debatable.)

Oops... nevermind, forgot I ever told it... Sin, can you sent back this thread in time to erase that ;)

(OOC: No, not a counterspell--the +10 is a faulty reading, see above ;))

*Hogarth wards herself.*

(OOC: Okay, it seems that KO2 forgot to apply the XP when Ashna was dead. I was wondering why her HP is so low, and it's because she's missing a level of human paragon. I'm going to pretend that she took a level of human paragon, got more HP, and prepped her new spells (it is the next day after all) which included Protection from Energy as the new 3rd-level spell slot)

*Ashna casts Protection from Energy on herself to ward herself from fire as well.*

*And then it explodes in a holocaust of roiling flame...*

(OOC: Wow, Vanitri has a very high Ref bonus. Good thing too--he only rolled a 14. Rinaldo got an 18. Everybody else rolled really terribly

So Vanitri and Rinaldo leave with nothing.
Rayne takes no damage.
Hogarth takes 59 after her protection (Ewwww, low roll)
Ashna takes 31 after her protection (much nicer roll)

Boo, what a waste of a DBF!)

*And though they are badly singed, and Hogarth is knocked unconscious and burned nearly to death, still, miraculously, no one is killed. In fact, Vanitri, Rinaldo, and Rayne are unharmed, the former two due to dodging out of the way and the last due to magical protections.*

Rinaldo continue to run and stops next to Hogarth, giving him a potion of cure light wound to stabilize him. "Someone, destroy the Crux before the next spell comes." tells Rinaldo.

OOC: hehehe, that's what you get when you have 3 classes with good REF. Imagine if I'd taken Shadowdancer too.

"Good to see you Lex, don't get killed please," Vanitri says as he sees her run in the room. "Same to you Rayne."

"Any ideas how to do that oh master of magical items?" Vanitri asks. He springs into action, drawing his swords as he rushes towards the Crux.

OOC: Did we heal up when we leveled?

(OOC: No, but you healed from resting a day with Hogarth, who probably converted all her stuff to healing before sleep. So if you're using the two swords, I assume that means you left the adamantine dagger for Rinaldo?)

*Dropping the dagger for Rinaldo in favour of his swords, Vanitri rushes towards the Crux, but just like Tenebrynn he begins to ripple and then seems to disintegrate in thin air.*

(OOC: I'll make a thread for Vanitri's Idylls soon--meeting in ~1 hour and parents coming after that for graduation tomorrow, so have to straighten room)

"Use my dagger, if any physical material can destroy it, it is an adamantine weapon. And throw it, or you'll be absorbed like Tenebrynn." answers Rinaldo

OOC: You spend at leats one night, if not two, stuck in this room with Hogarth, so he must have heal you before regaining his spells.

Rinaldo, his dagger in hand, turns to Rayne... "What next? How can we destory that Crux. How can we get back Vanitri and Tenebrynn?" He walks next to Hogarth to see if the potion have awaken his friend.

[SBLOCK=OOC]Did Hogarth awake with teh potion Rinaldo gave him.[/SBLOCK]
