The Crux of the Matter

[SBLOCK=Rinaldo]*There is a powerful magical trap on this door. It triggers when anyone tries to tamper with the door. While it is easy to find (perhaps on purpose as a warning?) it seems out of Rinaldo's league to disarm.*[/SBLOCK]

After a moment, Rinaldo turn back and come back to the group. "Not that way, a nicely made trap to disuade people to even think to go that way. Just obvious that a street rat could see it, but I won't even think to try to pass around it without the instuction manual. If the caster want us to go that way, he must have left a note somewhere else." tells Rinaldo

"How about... as the... front door?" ask Hogarth.

"You mean use a dispel magic? It might work, but I have seen nothing that make it look as a sure thing as it was on the front door. As it was told, we might just be unprepared to open it, so let's see elsewhere before trying that way."

"We'll have to remember that room, it looks important. Though I can just imagine that all these rooms may well look important. Lead on my friend." replies Tenebrynn. In his head he will remember to set aside a knock spell just in case Hogarth's idea doesn't work.

"Oh, what a joyous day!" a whispery voice speaks from behind them, causing everyone to turn around to see a hazy indistinct spectral figure floating in thin air beyond the edge of the balcony, "Little flies in our parlour! Ooh, and they want to see the Crux and the Dark Mistress! What a rich joke--what silly little flies! I think I'll--" it stops midthought, "But they...hmm...

Tricksy tricksy little fly
Maybe this time you won't die!
Brought it here...oh yes...oh wow!
I must tell New Mistress now!
Tricksy tricksy little fly
Maybe this time you won't die!"

*The figure turns and begins to float into the walls, though if anyone has a ranged weapon or attack and feels like using it, you can try. It looks incorporeal though.*

Hogarth pick up his symbol of Gundar and put it in front of him. Before he can tell anything, Rinaldo push his hand down. "Not now..." He looks at the figure before it dissapear.

"Could you please wait a bit
I would like to converse.
You seems to know this site
Which seems under a curse.

Maybe you can help us,
In exchange, we help you.
I swear my words are true
On my life, you can trust."

Rinaldo looks as the gohst dissapear in the wall hping it will react to his words. Hogarth and Tenebrynn who are next to Rinaldo, can see him smiling a moment and hear him telling. "My kids would be proud of that rhymes... come on, don't leave."

*The phantom turns around and seems to be looking at Rinaldo, though it doesn't have a face on the hazy bit at the top that would be its head if it wasn't just a blurry thing.*

"Ooo--look! The little fly wants to play! What a puny mortal--it thinks it can help us. So silly. Yes so silly. It can't help us--it can just die, like the other flies.

Spira's gone now, little fly
Coura always wondered why
Til the day she went away
Silly Coura made us pay.
Best be gone soon, little fly
Eve will surely make you die...

And maybe I'll get to help!"
the whispery voice laughs after going into a singsong voice again.

ooc: does Tenebrynn's knowledge bring anything to light either with regards to this creature or the names that it mentions?

Knowledge (arcana) +12
Knowledge (history) +6
Knowledge (religion) +4
Knowledge (nature) +5
Knowledge (the planes) +4
Knowledge (dungeoneering) +4
Knowledge (local) +5

[SBLOCK=Tenebrynn]Nope, nothing directly --though the names are spoken as if they're names of associates, comrades, enemies, or other people the creature knows, rather than arcane entities or something you would read about in a book. Also, he can tell that the creature appears incorporeal. That means normal weapons won't work, and even magic has a decent chance to fail.[/SBLOCK]

Rinaldo doesn't seems intimidated by the treath the ghost made him. He even smiles after a short moment, just before answering the ghost.

"What a mortal can do
A mortal can undo
All he needs is will
And maybe a bit of skill"

Tells Rinaldo with trust. He hesitate a quick moment before continuing.

"But we travel in dark
Will you give us a spark?
We are lacking knowledge
and we walk on the edge"

Rinaldo seems to have an hesitation on teh last two sentences, but he continue.

"Please, maybe you can tell
of this tower, the tale
and about your mistress
That could help our success

Tell us about Spira
And also on Coura
You have spoken of Eve
Who want us harm I beleive"

Rinaldo voice seems kind and the merchant doesn't show any anger toward the one who insult him and his friends.

"Don't forget your desires
As we are not liars
To help, we have come here
Go on, we open our ears"

He finally add, on a firm tone that make no doubt on the truth of his words.

(OOC: You're lucky you have +18 Diplomacy, are approaching the insane critter in a way that is entertaining to it, and are getting good rolls :p Nice work ;))

"The little fly thinks it won't die. How very over-confident, don't you think? But Eve hasn't taken you yet because of Spira, but now you're back, so she will!

Dying, dying, all will die!
Don't you see that, little fly?
Spira thought she was quite sly,
Taking Elpis, that is why
Killed herself and made them cry
Dying, dying, all will die!

Coura thought she was so brave
That her strength of will would save
All of us, or so she'd rave
But now we're all just Eve's slave
Dying, dying, all will die!
Don't you see that, little fly?

Little Xu was always sweet
Happy smiles for all she'd meet
Singing songs, the little fool
But she's now Eve's Wraith, her tool
Dying, dying, all will die!
Don't you see that, little fly?"
