There we go again... what feat to choose?

First Post
Just aquired 18th level yesterday and there is one last feat to choose before reaching epic level...

My character is an Elven Rogue 3/Wizard 6/Arcane Trickster 9 specialized in Transmutation (prohibited school: Evocation) - we use a house rule for exclusive skills, for those who wonder about the Rogue 3 - with the following feats so far (more than usual, due to some nice adventure rewards and we could choose an extra feat in the beginning in exchange for some character disadvantages):

Spellcasting Prodigy (Wizard)
Point Blank Shot
Precise Shot
Scribe Scroll
Alertness (Familiar)
Rapid Shot
Improved Initiative
Empower Spell
Eschew Material
Craft Wondrous Item
Track
Extend Spell

Thinking about another metamagic feat (Quicken or Maximize maybe, altho Maximize doesn't seem too useful having Empower already (kinda redundant)) or Improved Critical (Composite Longbow). Spell Penetration would also come to mind.

Feats from all official WotC sources (except Dragon Magazine, as we do not have those) are possible. Anything else with DM's discretion.

Any cool idea?

I agree with James, definitely Spell Penetration. And, when you get to 21st level, even consider Improved Spell Penetration (tome and blood, increases bonus to +4).

Elemental Substitution (Sonic). Dunno about ELH critters, but downhere in teh pre-Epic levels, Sonic resistance/immunity is pretty rare.

Costs no levels, either, so for a sorceror it's only time, and for a wizard, only bothering to prep the spell that way.

Feat's from Tome and Blood, btw.

I don't think Energy Substitution is much use without Evocation spells.

Yep, Spell Penetration is on my watch list. ;)

Spell Resistance is definitely a nuisance, altho I do not have to cast spells on enemies, I can rely on buffs and utility spells also. That's what kept me from taking it so far (our other Wizard has Spell Penetration and Greater Spell Penetration already).

There are several ways to go here depending on your playing style:

Given all your bow feats I'm assuming that you would get some use out of Improved Critical, so that sounds like a reasonable choice. However, there are alot of times that what you are shooting at isn't vulnerable to criticals, and with your (relatively) low BAB this isn't quite as huge as it might otherwise be.

Quicken Spell can be a great feat, but I rarely see people prepare more than one or two spells quickened so there is a real question of whether or not you are getting your usage out of it.

I normally recommend Combat Reflexes for everyone, but that is going to depend on whether or not your DM frequently does dirty tricks like swarming, grappling, disarms, trips, etc. Because you have Uncanny Dodge, you probably aren't as vunerable flat footed as some anyway. Also, since you seem to be an archer so you are often going to be without a threatened zone anyway.

Since you've already got Extend Spell, and you mention that you use alot of buffs, I'm going to put my strongest recommendation behind Persistant Spell. What is good for 15 rounds is even better all day long.

I'd defenately stay away from Maximize spell. If you want to get more fun out of your lower level spells, try Chain Spell.

If you don't like those Improved Counterspell can be fun.

Yep, immune to criticals seems to happen more often in higher levels... so Improved Critical, while surely nice, just doesn't add enough, I suppose.

Hehe, that's exactly what kept me from learning it so far... I can only see me memorizing quickened haste and that's about it.

Uhm... no, I don't think I need or could make good use of Combat Reflexes... first I already have a decent initiative and uncanny dodge and second I almost always use a weapon with no threatened area, as you already said.

But it's +4 levels, which means, it is not useable on most spells, that are good and have a duration based on rounds. And some of those spells I'd rather not have running the whole day (persistant blink or tenser's transformation :D).

I'd defenately stay away from Maximize spell. If you want to get more fun out of your lower level spells, try Chain Spell.

Yep, Maximize is just too similar to Empower. Chain Spell, now that might be worth a look! :)

Thanks for your suggestions!
