Tournament of Champions CR .5 to 5 (Archive)

Gansk said:
Dragons have plenty of other things going for them besides fast movement. Any champion that is chosen should factor dragon opponents into their strategy.

I factored in that Lawful Neutral would most likely meet at least two dragons against Chaotic Neutral, and probably others if by miraculous chance I could beat Chaotic Neutral for once. I did not think about the bull rush, but there really was not much I could have done to stop that without being completely vulnerable in other ways.

“Ladies, gentlemen, and genderless creatures! Let’s get right into our second quarterfinal match of the CR 3 edition of the Tournament of Champions! This match features the best of the Neutral Good forces against the best of the Neutral Evil forces.”

Making her way into the arena and starting at position 115N60E, this combatant measures 4 feet long and weighs 50 pounds. She has a record of three wins, one loss, and zero draws in the main battle. Her only defeat came at the claws of Neutral’s dire vulture. Representing the forces of Neutral Good, please welcome the battle dragon wyrmling Hargelllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllldaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!”

Hargelda enters to the cheers of the Neutral Good faction of the audience.

“Now making his way into the arena and starting at position 0N60E, this combatant measures 5 feet long and weighs 120 pounds. He is winless in the main battle, with a record of zero wins, one loss, and zero draws. He was slaughtered by Neutral’s tenacious and superior dire wolverine. Representing the forces of Neutral Evil, please welcome the seeker void hound Thokkkkkkkkkkkkkdokkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk!”

The raucous cheers of the Neutral Evil faction stop suddenly when they notice that Thokdok has yet to enter the arena. Then a smattering of applause breaks out amongst the more knowledgeable spectators, who assume that Thokdok is hidden somehow.

Psybo communicates telepathically to the two combatants. “Thokdok, you have initiative unless Neutral Evil states otherwise. Now go at it!”

For Gansk's eyes only! Trespassers will be shot!

Thokdok bolts across the hard-packed earth, just outside of reality, heading straight for the dragon. His spines stand angled towards his foe, and he rushes into Hargelda, raking the blades across the reptile's scaly flesh. Just as suddenly as he appears, the six-legged canine fades back into nothingness.[/sblock]

Don't shoot! Gansk requested that I referee this battle.

All of a sudden, a six-legged canine with razorlike ridges along its back appears at 110N60E, lunging at Hargelda. Thokdok does not hit hard enough (rolled 9+2+2=13) to penetrate Hargelda's hide. Thokdok then disappears, and Hargelda does not sense it anywhere.

It is Hargelda's move.

You're cleared. Go on through.

If the dragon tries to fly away, Thokdok will make a grapple of opportunity.[/sblock]

Hargelda breathes a wave of loud, dynamic sonic energy due south, then takes to the air in the direction.

(Std: Breath weapon due S (15 ft cone), then MEA from 115N60E to 65N60E15Z)

Thokdok avoids part of the blast (rolled 23 Ref save), but still takes 3 points of sonic damage. Thokdok has 22 HP remaining.

Round 2!

You are correct about no damage. I was looking at the incorrect void creature. Thokdok still has 25 HP.

The dragon provoked an AoO, but I cannot decide for you if you wish to take it. I left out the part about the AoO out on purpose.

Did Thokdok want to take an AoO?
