TURTLEDOME!: Battle Bone (DM: KenHood, Judge: Lord S.)

[sblock=Atanatotatos]He's a custom-built solo-monster.[/sblock]

OOC: You know, that 'marked' condition is cramping my monster's style. -2 to hit? Crud!

[sblock=ooc]I don't know of any monster that specifically targets one power source. Good call on this guy, though. I'd love to see the stats of a small solo halfling, despite the fact that it's kicking our butts.
I also understand that fortitude vs. stun attack follows, but a ranged attack using a garden gnome (rawr!) not hitting my much-more-up-there Reflex defense? awww. :.-( [/sblock]

[sblock=Pfft!]It will be load of fun! How often do you fight a monster that uses garden decorations as deadly weapons?

But that -2 to hit! Argh! I guess Cousin Eustace is gonna have to do something about that.[/sblock]

[sblock='Opportunity Attack']As long as I have this correct, my Combat Superiority means that when this attack hits, Eustace is stopped, and his move action is wasted. I also don't know my unarmed damage. Sorry

1d20+4->24 (Critical! Stupid no axe!)[/sblock]

Screech!

OOC: Wow. I didn't realize all that could happen because of a fighter's combat superiority. That changes everything.

Emral doesn't get an opportunity attack, because Cousin Eustace doesn't move past him. Drivan does not get attacked.

So, let's move to this parallel universe...

Round 1
Vaunea's powerful blow stymies Cousin Eustace. The halfling rocks back on his heels and spits out a tooth. "Naethaetswha'ahbaetahkin'boot!"

Cousin Eustace grabs Vaunea's wrist and kicks her knee, forcing her off balance. Then, in an amazing feat of martial acumen, he flips the minotaur head-over-heels, into Finnian--knocking both of them to the ground.

"Haffanahstraep! Saeyaenaextful!"

[sblock=Actions]Move: to Drivan, stopped by Vaunea
Standard: 'One-Armed Kung Fu' v. Vaunea (AC); v. Finnian (Reflex) (1d20+5=22, 1d6+3=9, 1d20+3-2=19, 1d6+3=4) -- Vaunea slides into Finnian and takes 9 damage. Finnian takes 4 damage. Both are prone.[/sblock]

Emral begins the incantation to fire a magic missile at Cousin Eustace. The halfling snarls, "AisaedNAEMAJ'K!" He snatches a garden gnome and flips it at the wizard.

[sblock=Eustace's Actions]Immediate Interrupt, "No Magic!", v. Fortitude (1d20+3-2=12)[/sblock]
The gnome strikes Emral in the head, bursting into a multitude of pieces and raising a gout of flame, stunning the wizard, but causing no long-term injury.

OOC: Emral is stunned until the start of his next turn, losing his current actions, after the move.

Marco runs for cover. "For the gods' sake, don't use magic! It only makes him angry...er!"

---

Round 2 Begins!
Note: Hadarai has two opportunity attacks pending, if he wants to use them. One for Cousin Eustace's move. The other for the 'No Magic!' ranged attack.

Also, I'm ruling that Vaunea's unarmed attack is 1d6, since she is oversized. However, there is no weapon bonus for unarmed attacks. Don't forget to factor that into your base values.

[sblock=Status and Initiative]
Initiative Rolls Here.

Finnian - Initiative 21, HP: 22/26 - Prone <-- YOU'RE UP!
Drivan - Initiative 18, HP: 20/20
Hadarai - Initiative 8, HP: 27/31
Vaunea - Initiative 7, HP: 29/38 - marking Eustace until EOT, prone
Cousin Eustace - Initiative 6, 18 damage, marked by Vaunea until Vaunea's end-of-turn
Emral - Initiative 6, HP: 24/24 - Stunned until start of turn
Marco

---

Resources Expended
Cousin Eustace - Nut-Cracker, One-Armed Kung Fu
[/sblock]

Note: Squares with plants are difficult terrain. Squares with statuary are impassable.

As Finnian is knocked down, there's a cry from above as a hawk swoops down towards their attacker (square G8).

Finnian wakes up from the stupor he's been in since sliding down and out of their meeting with Mr. Pinch, but then having a minotaur thrown on top of you will do that.

What's this now?, he says to no one in particular. He stands up wearing a dark look on his face. No one likes having a minotaur land on them.

COMBAT

OK. I'm going to be a bit slow at this because this is my first 4e combat encounter...

Move Action: Finnian stands up. Erlai arrives in G7
Minor Action: I use Hunter's Quarry to mark Eustace as my quarry. He's the nearest (and only?) enemy to me right now. (This also means I don't have an action left to draw my longsword)

Standard Action: Erlai attacks
Combat: Eustace - Round 2 (Erlai attacks) (1d20+6=26, 1d6+4=5)

Rolls:
Combat: Eustace - round 2 (1d20+6=10, 1d8+3=9, 1d6=1) Only the 1d6=1 applies as the extra damage for Hunter's Quarry added to Erlai's attack.

[sblock=Weldon]Hey, unarmed combat is easy in 4E. Your attack inflicts 1d4 damage, using Strength. (That's all there is to it.)

Your character is currently prone, so you have to spend a move action to make him stand up. Unless you want to crawl and attack Cousin Eustace, which I don't recommend. :o

So you need to make that modification to your actions.

Also, are you going to call in your hawk? I'll let him attack on your turn.

For instance...
You could spend a move action to stand, draw your longsword as a minor action, then use that daily attack that lets you shift onto your target after your animal attacks it. That would permit you to stand and move in the same turn.[/sblock]

[sblock=ooc] Finnian: yeah, use your Hawk while you prep Finnian for next round. You're still "acting", but with Finnian he can set up various attacks round by round, I guess.

DM: I'm going to run back to square M4, then just cast FLAMING SPHERE in square G9; this changes only if he moves, and the PCs move. The idea is that it's a square that gets him in range and doesn't hurt any of my pals.
Moving by the gazebo(?) should give me at least partial cover and concealment from his attack (no magic!!!), AND avoid harming the other PCs. Not only that, but he's going to incur either automatic damage from the sphere every round he's adjacent to it, or he's going to incur Opportunity Attacks when he moves in the spaces next to Vaunea, Hadarai, or the Hawk, or Finnian; or several of them at the same time.
If he does attack, and the roll is close to nailing me, I'm going to use Staff of defense to buff myself. and avoid the attack.[/sblock]

When he's recovered enough to act, Emral shuffles back by a statue and fires a powerful spell: summoning a ball of "living" flame, he places it so to best inconvenience their mutual foe. Meh, he's leathery-skinned, he'll be okay.

Flaming Sphere: 1d20+4=15, 2d6+4=10

ooc:this is Hadarai's OA: 15 vs AC, 10 dmg. You only get one OA per opponent's turn, though.
[sblock=Finnian,tactics and rules]Also, I guess Finnian's round really needs to be clarified. It takes a standard action for the companion's attack;Another standard for nimble strike;another standard yet for twin strike, which by RAW requires to "wield two melee weapons", if I remember right, anyway. Too many actions in any case...
Also, nimble strike is for ranged attacks only.
To make it short: you can use a move action to both stand up and make your beast companion move; then you can either have it attack(with a standard action) or spend an AP to be able to attack yourself, but that would be a bit wasted. I suggest having the hawk attack from G7 so that it's flanking with Hadarai.[/sblock]
