Two Weapon Wackiness.

Masterwork, not Magic.

But, with the cleric standing behind him casting Bull Strenght, or GMW on him, things are gunna get ugly. Bull Strenght, or GMW to him, and the other to the 6th level Psywarrior with Deep Impact.

This is going to be messy.
Yes, I know you said masterwork and not magic. That part of my spreadsheet wasn't working, so I just calculated it with a +1 weapon.

Why? If you have a +1 quarterstaff, doesn't it effect the staff itself (THus, both heads?)

With that logic, then doesn't GMW cast on the flail itself effect the whole thing?

If not a better example, how's this: Look at a double bitten axe. Would not it enchant both bits?

A greataxe? Yes. An Orcish Double-Axe? No.

DMG p184. Double weapons have both heads enchanted separately.

So a double weapon has to be enchanted with an equiv of +2 just to get a +1 to either head?

No. The enchantment isn't split across the heads. You just enchant both separately.

In the case of Magic Weapon, it means casting two spells. Just like enchanting two longswords.

In the case of permanent enhancement bonus, it costs 2000 per head for +1 (plus 300 per head for masterwork quality).

That's a total of 4000 for two +1 enhancements, versus 8000 for one +2 enhancement.

Imagine the dire flail as two flails glued together in the middle, for purposes of enchanting.

This can be advantageous though. A dire flail with fire enchantments on one end and ice enchantments on the other is pretty much assured to be able to damage just about anything.

Ya, the versitility of being able to enchant both sides different is a big plus. Or you can get both ends as +5 defenders and then go one the defensive. :D

Although devils, demons, and half-fiends will give it some trouble :)

By "either head" I assume you mean both heads.

Not quite. It has to be enchanted to +1 twice, independently.

The weapon bonus costs table is not linear, so this difference becomes crucial for higher magic weapons.

However, I think it comes out too expensive to make double weapons, so if it ever comes up in one of my games I intend to give a discount to the lesser head.
