The raiding party does not immediately see that there are other members in the party. They are quick to charge Cormorante and Britta, seeing Kuwaia moving toward them as they are moving in, but it is the archers and Antapkos who act first. Antapkos launches the first of his two javelins, the blade buries to the shaft in the abdomen of an unsuspecting foe. As that Da’Roneh falls to the ground, the other realize that they have been baited.

As the first enemy is incapacitated, Siofrita launches her arrow, the assault augmented with the bending of chemical waylines. Her arrow is slightly more effective than the javelin from Antapkos and with the ionization, that Da’Roneh is also incapacitated but still conscious. Almost immediately after the arrow from Siofrita flies, so does the arrow from Sprthnt. His is accompanied by heat. Though he is not quite the shot as Siofrita, at this short distance, he too incapacitates an enemy.

Three of the Da’Roneh fall before they can engage in battle, but all three are conscious. Kuwaia reaches one of the enemies just before the rest engage with her, Cormorante, and Britta. Kuwaia just manages to stick her enemy with her right sword as she dances to her right for position. Her first opponent shows no competence in trying to hit her; but as a second arrives, he is able to clip her with his bone club. Neither opponent is able to push her with his mystical pulse of air.

Cormorante and Britta are also slightly faster than the enemy. Cormorante slide to his left as he stick hi opponent with his right javelin. His first opponent cannot retaliate, but the second is able to barely make contact, only causing some irritation. Like Kuwaia, he is completely unaffected by the attempt to mystically push him away. Britta, as she waits, easily blocks the incoming blow of her first opponent, striking him fairly hard with her mallet, but she is unable to follow through with her shield bash. The blow of her second opponent is partially deflected by her shield and causes no harm. The remaining Da’Roneh that has not engaged changes direction to charge at Antapkos as he is noticed.

Considering the initial assault of the party to be incredibly effective, Antapkos, Siofrita, and Sprthnt walk toward the gathering of the enemy, each choosing another target. Cormorant and Kuwaia mystically alter the perception of their existences to become more difficult targets. Cormorant draws back his right javelin and thrusts his left at the left side of his first opponent. Having previously stabbed with her right, Kuwaia arcs her left sword in a counter gyre to slash across the abdomen of her first opponent. Britta adjusts her stance but remains defensive, knowing that her true skill is in countering.

Once actively engaged, Kuwaia proves to be much faster than her enemy. The arc of her blade is adder quick, but the blade does not make much contact with flesh. Though her injured opponent cannot retaliate, her second lands a significant blow with his club; however, he cannot generate a pulse of air to push her down. Britta sets herself at ready, pushes the club of her first Da’Roneh aside with her shield, then clips his skull with her mallet, knocking him unconscious. The second enemy not only manages to make some contact with his bone club, he is also able to push her down with a pulse of air. Neither causes much harm, but she is no longer on her feet.

Before anyone else from the party can act, the Da’Roneh, who remain standing, engage for their second attack, each swinging a bone club and attempting to generate a pulse of air. Since Antapkos, Siofrita, and Sprthnt are only facing one opponent each, they are all able to avoid being hit. Antapkos and Siofrita, however, are both knocked down with a pulse of air. Sprthnt is unaffected by this attempt. Cormorante, who is facing two enemies, uses his left javelin to block the first blow, but this leaves him more open to the second, which glances off the back of his skull, causing a severe ringing in his ears.

Being in an awkward position from defending himself, Antapkos is unable to hit his opponent even though he launches his second javelin from one step away. Siofrita and Sprthnt are both still able to stick their enemies with an arrow and cause additional mystical damage. The remaining opponent facing Siofrita falls, unable to physically continue, even though Siofrita is now laying on the ground.

With Britta being free of any opponent, the Sojourn Six quickly overcome the five remaining opponents, especially since the one facing Sprthnt tries to run.

Each owing to a slightly different ritual, Antapkos and Cormorant free the spirits from the bodies of the enemies that litter the ground. After the corpses are searched for anything of interest, everyone helps in moving them away fromthe water source so that their decay might not taint it. The bodies are left upon the ground for nature to take its course.

Other than some food items, which are of little significance, nothing of further interest is discovered when searching the bodies, but all of their carried trinkets were some kinds of bird feet. This young crew had evidently not robbed too many caravans. The significance of the feet is unknown. The odd coincidence of meeting a crew known to hijack travelers on the Southern Trade Route seems a bit perplexing. The party feels the need to decide to divert from their current assignment, which seems to have no real purpose, to investigate the possible origin of the bandits or ignore the meeting and continue searching the pass for possible trade materials.

Discussing the new discovery among themselves the Sojourn Six come to the conclusion that their current assignment is a fool’s errand or just something to occupy time and keep them out of the way at the very least. Were they able to actually discover a sustainable amount of collectible materials within the Pass, it would likely be a mere coincidence. Upon the morrow, the six intend to scale the mountain to see where the Da’Roneh might have originated.

Though almost at the last day of the Drenching Season, a rain in the Western Jungle produced some blow-over that caused a fine mist to dampen everything. While it is certainly good for the vegetation, it was a bit annoying for the six youths. Clothing had to be shaken and fluffed to keep from chafing until body heat and the rising Daylight could dry it.

The obvious path was not difficult to scale and only occasionally required the use of hands. About midway up the climb a fissure from the south cut into the path, creating a second possible ascension. Cursory examination showed that both paths had been traveled by other people. The divergent path to the south was very narrow. It would be a little more difficult for Cormorante and Britta to transverse.

Cormorante makes a suggestion to the group. "Even though the more narrow path looks like a tight squeeze, I think we should check it first. I would hate to pass it by and leave a possible behind and in front of us."

Antapkos responds. “This other path looks less traveled and you and Britta will likely have to turn sideways to get through, but I agree with you assessment.”

Sprthnt gestures for them to proceed. “Kuwaia and I will wait here until you all have gone ahead a little. We will keep an eye out for anyone else.”

Taking the more narrow path, the Six find that it opens onto a small plateau on the eastern edge of the Dragon’s Footprint. While no other people seem to be about, someone, likely the Da’Roneh, has built a small structure and established a remote camp. Though vegetation, including stunted trees, grows fairly thickly along this elevation, even though most climatic moisture is contained by the higher peaks to the west, the tiny plateau is almost void of such and provides an outstanding location to observe the Southern Trade Route off in the distance. The road is more easily located because a caravan from Asylim is currently headed northward along it. It stands to reason that the previously defeated group of Da’Roneh youth had seen the caravan the previous day, which had inspired their departure toward it.

Having a prepared location for setting up camp, Antapkos takes a position to watch for danger. Siofrita and Sprthnt venture off into the foliage to look for game, while the other three gather materials and prepare a cookfire, hoping to build one that produces little smoke.
