Can magic weapon such as Distance, which says "Weapon: Any ranged", be applied to a light/heavy thrown weapons which is classified as a melee weapon?

I am afraid not. But not sure. Are there any clear official clarification for it?

I think so, yes, but I don't have firm confirmation. The definition of melee weapon on page 268-269 of the Rules Compendium spells out that a heavy thrown weapon can be used for a ranged or area power than has the weapon keyword, which seems to indicate that these weapons are treated "as though they were ranged."

In addition, the current version of the Character Builder lets you create a +1 Distance Javelin, for what it's worth. That's a heavy thrown weapon, so I would say yes, this is fine.

IDHMBIFOM but I'd allow it- in fact, I allowed a distance shuriken in the past.

By the RAW, I'm not sure without checking my books which way this should go- it honestly never occurred to me that ranged weapons wouldn't include throwing weapons.

This is answered in the Magic Weapons section of the PHB, on page 232:

"Any ranged" includes projectile weapons and weapons with the heavy thrown or the light thrown properties.

That's it! Thanks!

Hmm. I have to spread more XP first before giving you.
