What are Avengers doing since SOC got nerfed?

Just curious, and definitely not intending to start an edition war: Does anyone miss the 3.x days of Scimitar + Improved Critical + Weapon Master = crit on 12 or higher? I never played one but when you consider the lengths that players go to get a crit on 18-20...

In our Birthright game, back in 3.0, our DM threw in an NPC with 8 levels in Disciple of Dispater who used a falchion.

Crit on a hit of 9+.

Did I mention it was a Vorpal Falchion?

So now, on a roll of a 9 or higher, you're almost certainly dead. He probably confirmed, as he had a high BAB etc, and probably wasn't going to power attack, because, hey, he had a 55% chance to OUTRIGHT KILL YOU.

No, no, I don't miss those days at all.

How were you getting your 18-20 crit without a radiant weapon, were you just using Bond of Retribution?

Yes, I picked The Raven Queen for Deity and picked Power of Fate. That way I get BOR for OA's, MBA's, and a solid Radiant At-Will. With 2 Weapon Fighting and Opening, it covers my 2nd hammer as well.

Radiant Servant is okay, but I really think you're going to regret that choice at epic (assuming you are playing to epic) when your 19-20 is still relegated to a single at-will attack and you could have just spent a feat to apply the same thing to all your attacks.

Yep, thought about that. I hate to wait that long - 2/3's of your entire career spent waiting for an increased crit range. :(

I think the DMs are gonna let me have a Radiant Weapon for my main Craghammer, when we get close enough in levels to it. I think they are gonna weave some kind of story in where I offer so many weeks "community" service to a local orphanage and/or the local Temple of Pelor, via some side-quest. So that should work out okay. I like Radiant Servant because it actually does offer several things besides just the increased crit range for an Avenger.

Strange question... Why do all of you who seem to hate any build that is multiclass and synergistic? And then allow them?
I don't? I disallow all dragon material sight unseen, and I'd have serious misgivings is someone asked to play a student for a class that wasn't all about radiant powers. It's balanced around a specific set of powers, not a pile of other-class options and a big superior weapon.

Power of Fate doesn't give you BoR as an MBA/OA, it just gives you a +1 bonus to the attack roll against bloodied enemies, unless you're referring to something else.

If you are pursuit, then Ardent Champion with a Jagged Weapon gets you about as close as you can to the SoC crit range.

Otherwise, just switch your weapon to Jagged, and pick an Avenger PP you like.

Or switch to using a dagger and pick up Dagger Master if you really have to have 18-20 crit range, but don't be surprised when that gets slashed to rogue and daggermaster PP powers in two months.

I agree with that, too many people M/C into rogue for that PP just cause they like cheese on toast, but what is coming out in 2 months ?
