I chose only two, because one of my three would be gnolls yet apparently they aren't an official D&D option yet.

I have been continually shocked that there hasn't been an official dog-person race in a D&D book. People love dogs!

Truthfully, I really liked that blog you linked about the addition of exotic races, and it made me think I should give Eberron another chance.

You won't regret it. People tend to focus on the robot people and the dinosaur riding halflings, but Eberron is also a rock solid "standard D&D" setting with a lot of interesting takes on classic tropes.

And there's more information on the setting, for free, on Keith Baker's blog site than there is total published material for almost any other D&D setting.

Sometimes I play humans, and other times I play humans. But then again, I also play humans - depending on the campaign of course.

I used to be an elf person, and then I played dwarves for a while - I loved my dwarf wizard with a big sword. One of my favorite characters I ever played was a highly evangelistic goblin sun-worshipper.

But for the last decade or so I've just been into humans.

That indeed is pretty surprising.

Though the elven vote is split by elves and half elves. Combined they're more popular than humans.

I am also surprised how poorly the tiefling and the genasi are doing. I assumed they were pretty popular. Changelings being so well liked is surprising too.

Overall, the classic Tolkien races seem to be holding their own.

Yeah, I expected more Tiefling, but I always though genasi were a niche choice. I think they are conceptually cool, and never got the attention the other 2 planar options got.
