D&D 4E What does your dream 4e Monster Manual contain?

Flumph, Flail-Snail, Wolf in Sheeps clothing...wait, wrong list.

I want to see a core bullywug that doesn't suck. I'd clean out all the crappy 3rd edition exclusives that infest the original MM, and replace them with some of the better monsters from the later books, though exact names escape me at the moment.

And just as a personal preference, I'd rather see a wide range of monsters, instead of devoting 1/3 of the book to Demons, Devils, Daemons, Doodads, and other assorted quasi-evil outsider wannabes and hanger-ons. Just for variety's sake.

Going out on a limb here with something that may be unpopular. ;)

They have said that monsters have been redesigned to fill "roles" on the battlefield, so each critter has an overall "feel" to it that defines what role it plays. For example, an orc is an up front combatant, while the mind flayer is a behind the scenes manipulator.

Taking the "monster role" idea one step further...

Leave all the Good aligned monsters out of the Monster Manual.

Seriously. The "role" of good aligned critters in most campaigns is sponsor, ally, friend, or something to be rescued. Do you need stats for that? Not really. From a game mechanic standpoint, does it matter if the individual sending the PCs on their adventure is a wealthy noble, a high level wizard, a gold dragon, an astral deva, or a couatl? They can show up in the 4e Monster Manual II, or in the equivalent of the BoVD as adversaries for evil PCs.

Everything that hasn't been done yet for the d20 system that has been statted up in previous editions. Even if that means more than one book.

Monsters that are more rooted in mythology then not - the three Gorgon sisters, the Minotaur, the Hydra, Banshees, Jotuns, etc. Rip 'em straight from the books of yore and legend.

Tons of templates. A metric buttload. Like, a gazillion. Please!

Animals in a splat book accompanying the MM, but not inside wasting space. Details of familiars and animal companions and the like within (I wish).

That's all I can think of for now.

One of my all time favs The Kech (and I am talking art like the 1E MM2 here, not the crappy version that was in 2E MC).

I like a collection of the iconic outerplanes creatures (inc good ones). They are needed for summoning after all.

I love the core humanoids and am happy for them to be in numbers.

(I didn;t hate MM4. I use it a lot. Not too many way out there creatures - just useflu ones).

Oh, and I even liked the dragonspawn. Love the cultural tie-ins these had. Great idea to populate a realm devoted to Tiamat with these. In fact I would love to see a lot more monsters tied-in with the deities. Who or what serves who exactly. Give the monsters some background.

Some other favs inc: stirges, undead (of most kind), dire animals, the dragons with unque features according to colour.

Definaltely no tojanidas or whatever the heck that was. Do not intoduce a creature just b/c it can do something different, such as sonic damage. Intorduce it b/c it is a good creature. I mean did anyone use one of those? Or and yrthak, etc. My players would p$%s themselves if I showed them pics of those things attacking.

On a more serious note, assuming that they could fit 250 monsters (plus 50 animals, normal and dire, in an appendix) in it- rumor has it that 300 is the number of critter that they're shooting for- this is a taste of what I'd like to see (off the top of my head):

A CD (that came with the book)with a program that will allow you to print 'Monster Cards' from you computer (cards with the pic/stats already on them). It would be even more wonderful if you could 'generate' or customize these cards before printing them.

Ah right, THAT would be good. Or even a monster builder, so that I could convert all my 3rd party monsters.

Otherwise, i want ALL the monsters ever written converted. Never have enough of them.
