What the heck is Lucas thinking?!

At a recent appearance in front of an audience, Lucas said, in no uncertain terms, that the original version of the original trilogy will never be released on DVD.

Ever.

The only version that will ever see DVD is the "Special Edition" from 1998. The one where Greedo shoots first. The one where Luke's best line in ESB is removed for no good reason. The one... Hell, you know the one.

I'm probably a lone voice crying in the wilderness here, but I'm honestly not sure I'll every buy the original trilogy on DVD now. I want the option of watching the original--the better, in many respects--version.

Crap.

While it won't be formatted to naturally play that way, won't the alternate scenes likely still be included and won't it be possible to program your... Bah! Nevermind! If he's gonna be that way about it, I ain't buying it neither!

The same thing that happened with the ET DVD will happen with the Star Wars ones. There will be an outcry and we will get what we want.

Either way, no matter what I say now I'll be buying whatever Lucas feeds me as far as the original trilogy goes on DVD. I am weak. But I will protest as much as I can. :D

Okay I failed my Star Wars Knowledge roll, What line are you talking about?

Also I don't think we will ever again see Han fire first, Lucas wants him to be all good guy now. Well at least I have my copy on VHS were Han shoots first and has the original version of the The Death Star blowing up.

IIRC, in the past Lucas also said, in no uncertain terms, that there would only be three movies.

When Lucas says, "This thing will not be done ever." It translates into "This thing will not be done until I darn well feel like it."

Damn you, Lucas!! I won't buy the updated versions on DVD! I wouldn't buy them when they were available the first time on VHS. He'll just have to release them for us, that stupid-hairy-faced-big-chined-plaid-shirt-wearing-nincompoop!!!!! :p

Grrr...Arrrgghhh!!!

Didn't Lucas say at some point that he felt the special editions were the "correct" versions of the film?

Oh, well. All the more reason to hang onto my old VHS copies of the original trilogy. Now I just need to get a new VHS player before they stop making them.
