Why Doesn't the Cleric have Cat's Grace? (2002 Thread!)

The Cleric has ALL OTHER buff spells such as Endurance and Owl's Wisdom. WHY don't they get Cat's Grace as well?

This seems to be an oversight by wotc as far a I am concerned.

Why should they be able to buff all stats except DEX???

When the core rules came out, the designers seemed to think that spellcasters buffing mental stats was munchkin. So the only core rules buffs are physical. Of those, holy strength and holy endurance make more sense than holy sneakiness. It's very sensible if you don't look at the game as a bunch of numbers.

Umm, you need to rethink your argument guy.

The Cleric has BULL STRENGTH AND ENDURANCE in the EXACT same fashion that a WIZARD does...

Your argument is moot.. DUDE Cats Grace is not even a mental buff...

Actually, I think it is a better question why Clerics do get Fox's Cunning (Int boost).

As for why not Cat's Grace, I agree that for most gods it makes more sense to boost Str or Con than Dex. Many clerics and gods just aren't as concerned about Dex. Trickery domain already has Invisibility as it's second level spell, no room for Cat's Grace there. I don't really see any other domains that it would be appropriate for.

I put it down as yet another of those strange spell list things that will always be a mystery, along with why don't Wizards and Sorcerers get Make Whole. Mending was originally a Wizard spell, all the golem fixing spells are wizard, yet Make Whole is Clerical?

In any case, the spell lists are supposed to maintain a certain level of uniqueness. Think of this as a good reason for Sorcs to take Cat's Grace if they take a buff spell.

The Celerity domain has it, I believe. So clerics of Oldimara (sp?) and Fharlangan can get it... at about 11th level ;) Hell, they automatically get +2 to dex and another +1 (on top of the dex) to initiative and +10 ft movement. Those are some pretty friggin fast clerics!

Clerics of Phaulkon and other archer gods should get Cat's Grace. Dex ain't all about being sneaky.

Better question....why don't Druids get any of the buff spells named after animals? The whole physical buffs I can live without, they already get alot of physical abilities. The fact they're the only primary spellcasters who don't get to buff thier casting attribute is really annoying...

zorlag

Check out the Masters of the Wild for Druidic buffing spells. They flat +4 enhancement bonus to one physical stat and -2 penalty to one other physical stat.

Unless you count Divine Wisdom from Relics and Rituals, that is.....

Odd, It's probably an error of sorts. I can't really see any opportunity to totally abuse cat's grace or think of a reason a deity should forbid access to it. (only silly reasons)
