And while I agree with you, I feel that this subject inherently overlaps with politics and identity and culture in ways that render it difficult to discuss dispassionately.

I took a look inside the BoED, because I assume the art in there is intended to be handsome.

First pic: give some clothes so that the artist doesn't need to make him look neutered, maybe make him non-blue, and it's a start. Second pic: not my type, but I'll call him handsome enough. Third pic: neutered but at least the face isn't ugly. Last pic: bald, neutered anatomy study; freaky and not attractive. I'll call the first three handsome but they're not quality eye candy and unlike the guy in my photo they're clearly not meant to be sexy.

I'm curious: what were you thinking when you included beings with the heads of goats and horses on a list that should be an answer to a photo of a hot guy?

See, IMHO this is a flaw in the "oh too sexy" argument. The only two hot Iconics in the PHB are Lidda and Vadania, both of whom are also among the most clothed Iconics.

I like to think Lidda shows that a female character can be popular despite being non-human/non-elf and covering her body if artists give her cool stuff to do, and Vadania is an example of beautiful but not revealing. But Mialee gets a lot of hate, with people commenting on her ugliness. It seems that many people are very, very disappointed that she's not a hot elf chick but one who has charisma as her dump stat.

1) of her face
2) of her "vestment"

There is a drawing of her in the UA "mialee as a rogue wizard", that's far better than the average portrait of her. The worst beeing her look on the 3.0 game-master screen. A (female) friend of mine said that she looks like an insect.

Wait. Am I trying to find pictures for your personal ... uh ... use? Are we discussing nudity or your taste in men?

Seriously, you need to apply the same standard to pictures of men as you do to pictures of women. Whether or not it turns you on personally is not an indication of the artist's intent, particularly if you're only attracted to one sex or the other.

They're naked and male.

Are you telling me you would not object to a naked female if she had pointy ears? Or if I could say, "but really she's not a woman she's a tree"?

Mialee gets a lot of hate because she looks like an ugly alien. Her facial features are out of proportion, and her outfit is stupid. (Not too revealing, nor too chaste, just too stupid.) Finally, her facial expression is always blank. This is half the reason IMHO Lidda is so popular -- she actually smiles every once in a while.

Ok Nifft, you win. A topless man is the same as a topless woman. The only thing that matters is the amount of visible skin. If the man happens to be a huge horse beastman, that doesn't matter either, he's male and that's what counts. For that matter, if the female happens to be an actual horse, that's not a relevant detail. She's NUDE!
