[WOT Adventure] OOC Thread 2

Ok, what about this PrC; it's the same as Dave's except:

d10 hit dice

Prereqs are +6 BAB, Composure 4 ranks, Balance 5 ranks, Intimidate 4 ranks, Dodge, Mobility, Quick Draw, Weapon Focus (any sword), Combat Reflexes

Blade Defense is Int based (it goes well with Expertise)

Abilities are:
  1. Blade Defense
  2. Blademaster Strike +1d6
  3. Superior Weapon Focus
  4. Def Awareness (keep Dex bonus)
  5. Eyes of the Crane
  6. Blademaster Strike +2d6
  7. Hummingbird Kisses the Honeyrose (Imp. Crit.)
  8. Def. Awareness (flanked)
  9. Bonus Feat from Armsman List
  10. Blademaster Strike +3d6
    [/list=1]

    How 'bout that?

I made some revisions.
-Replaced The Dark One's Own Luck with Spring Attack
-changed pre-req of Weapon Proficiency (any sword) to Weapon Specialization (any sword)
-increased BAB requirement to +6
-deleted references to abilities not given by the class

I agree that the Dark One's Own Luck doesn't really fit flavor-wise.

I changed that to Spring Attack.

You did mean Hummingbird kisses the honey rose rather than the heron spreads its wings, right? You don't require whirlwind attack...

Typo. I'm not a big fan of using a flavored name for an ability that just grants a feat, so I just list Improved Critical.

I like the abilities, the extra d6 definitely give this Blademaster a punch. 4 skill points is nice too. And I definitely agree that Composure is part of being a Blademaster.

I have two problems though:

1. d8 hit dice? Ouch! It's still a fighting class, right?

You lose one hit point/level, and half your levels are Armsman; a Blademaster is supposed to avoid getting hit, not roll with the punches. Something had to offset more generally useful special abilities and more skill points.

2. I think the requirements are actually too easy to get. How many bonafide Blademasters have we seen in the novels? Less than a dozen, and with the importance of the main characters, you'd think they'd see more than their fair share. Yes, three feats makes it equal to the Warder's feat prereqs, but it takes away a lot of the prestige of the prestige class.

I just increased the requirements.

Yuri would like to step in and point out that he'd prefer the original Duelist canny defense that uses Int instead of Wis, but he's metagaming...

I think Wisdom works better for a Composure-centric class. Yuri's got one or two stat increases before he can take Blademaster anyway.

Blademaster Comments

1. I think that the Defense progression is still low. Maybe +5 rather than +3 would work.

2. The +3d6 seems a bit too powerful. It's much more powerful than parting the silk, as the average damage from just the die is 16 with a Warder's sword, and the maximum is 28. Granted, it's not as bad as the +10d6 maxed Sneak Attack of a Wanderer/Thief-taker, but it does apply to every attack. I'd apply it to only the first successful attack per round. Either way, I hate to be caught between a Blademaster and a Thief-taker.

3. I really think that the Defensive Awareness should include both Bonus to Dexterity and Flanking. I'm not sure whether it does in Dave's version.

Just some thoughts.

[ot] Is it just me or has the in character forum become a lot more popular in the last month or two?

It's not just you. It used to be that the only thing going on with any regularity was the Iconics. Now, there seem to be five or ten games in the In-character forum, and most have an OOC thread to go with them.

I think it's pretty encougeing actually, gaming on the boards is a very differnt experaince than live gaming, and just as fun.

I like the fact that it has alowed me not only to role-play better than i have in quite a while, but it also lets me try out a veriaty of things that i either haven't got to or that my DM won't do.

I am trying to keep within Jordans system with being tired after using alot of power. I am basing the exhaustion on the fact that Moraine Sedai was so fatigued by using alot of power in Edmonds field, first to stop the trollocs, then she healed quite a few serious injuries, Tam, all the people mentioned when th dragon fang is put up etc. She is exhausted, but clearly able to do more a few 0 level weaves maybe? I think after using the last of their weaves a character should be right around passing out, and only a concentration save, or maybe fortitude should allow them to keep moving.

This was a long convoluted way of asking, Is my interpretation correct, and balanced. Feedback?

I think you are pretty dead on in your interpitation, i don't know if i would go as far as having to make checks after useing all your weaves, but you should be pretty wiped.

I think it partially depends on your interpretation. Is this the cost associated with normal weave use, or is it the result of significant overchanneling? In book terms, normal weave use should leave you pretty tired, but I think the game associates those penalties with overchanneling.

Its regular channeling, but I was trying to stay more by the book, as there are things in the game which contradict the books, like only 1 person may bond a target a warder, no bonding channelers, healing weaves can affect the caster, Aiel bucklers are just weights and decorations to wear. Seems odd how WOTC is changing stuff on purpouse, odd and disrespectful.
