D&D 5E PHB Races Redone

Eh seems innate to me, but I’m fine with agreeing to disagree.

I also don’t agree that the high elf cantrip is cultural. The High Elves are innately magical, and this manifests as every high elf, even one raised by wolves, being able to do magic. I wouldn’t expect an otherwise nonmagical wood elf or rock gnome raised in a High Elf family to have a cantrip.
Will reread the entry after work in 1.5 hours.

In the end it comes down to are elf’s better Are hiding due to familiarity with Natural surroundings (culture) or some innate camouflage (biology)
Personally I’d go with culture.

I agree though High Elf cantrips is Innate and in my mind connected to their Fey nature

The entry on the cantrip gives no direction but the opening line of High Elf states that they have "a keen intellect and at least a basic mastery of magic". So if it is not going to say either way though it implies basic magic is learned by all when young, we get to choose.

MkIII Elf
Trance: As per PHB
Starvision: Can see unlimited under a clear night sky with stars and/or moon without penalty.
Sylvan Elves are by their very natures tied to nature itself all Sylvan Elves can add their Charisma modifier to non knowledge checks involving natural environment, plants and animals.
Fey Ancestry As per PHB + Gain 1 Cantrp chosen from the Wizard or Druid list.
Keen Senses As per PHB
Graceful form: May add proficiency bonus to Dexterity Ability Checks once per short rest
Fleet of Foot: As per PHB

Aren't the Drow sensitive to sunlight because they pissed off a God? Sins of the parents and all that.
The Drow race redo will most likely be done soon enough by WotC so I will leave it be, and as for the topic you broach I think that it could go either as a godly punishment or as environmental. Keep in mind Drow from different setting and different groups of Drow within a setting can differ greatly. For example a Dark Elf in Dragonlance is a criminal that has been exiled.

The weakest creature with a strength score at all - a chipmunk, say - has a chance, albeit a small one, of making a DC 14 strength check. IE bashing down a pretty good wooden door.

The strongest gods (Kord, Thor, et al) have a chance of failing to break down said door.

No they don't, since the DM determines if a roll is necessary or possible for a certain creature trying a certain task.

In regards to the topic of this thread the trick in regards of really strong races is to show it with racial abilities no by stat. I may take a shot at other races after finishing the PHB ones.

Here is a thought:
Everything can procreate with everything. Take full blood, half-blood, quarter-blood or eighth-blood of whatever you want. Darkvision for that drow, cool. Want to be 1/2 drow, half human? Halve the darkvision range. Want to be 1/4 drow, 1/4 human, 1/4 halfling, 1/4 changeling? Cool cut it by a quarter.
Rework racial attributes to fit the newly designed perimeters.

Then, separate cultural aptitudes to where the character grew up.

Reminds me of the days of 3.X where people were playing 1/2 this, 1/4 that and a 1/4 something else......glad those days are in the past. Sorry not really something I am interested in.

Or it’s a natural magical effect, that makes them naturally easy to overlook in natural environments. Doesn’t have to camouflage as such.

Makes sense
