I'm more wondering why a thread discussing Campaign 3 is dominated by more complaining about someone not even in the show.
I wouldn’t say it’s dominated by that, it’s just one of the things being discussed. And it’s pretty directly connected to the main topic. Discussion of any serialized entertainment is likely to invite comparisons to other parts in the series, and since there’s only one episode of the new campaign so far, naturally the conversation is bound to end up going that way quickly since there isn’t much more to discuss yet. And since 3 of the characters in this episode have carried over from EXU, it’s to be expected that it was one of the first comparisons to be drawn.

Personally, I found campaign 1 by far the most enjoyable, I checked out halfway through campaign 2 and I couldn't get into Exandria Unlimited at all (I REALY hated the DM's style for the campaign, like A LOT).

Campaign 1, for me, seemed the most "D&D like." They've adopted a much more performance art style (playing to the audience etc.) and it's just not clicking with me nearly as much.
My favorite part about EXU was the DM. Just starting campaign one so do dont have much of an opinion but I can see what you say about it feeling more like real ppl playing and not so much performing.

3.) Bertram Bell might be Travis' full time PC, or he may be a stopgap. I could see it either way. It is interesting that he is 5th level. However, I think that even if he is not intended to be the full time PC for Travis, he could end up love playing him and preserve him for the forseeable future. Most likely, I think they find his true PC somewhere during one of their first missions and he has a mysterious amnesiac past issue.
I have a wild theory. Travis has been wanting to play as a werewolf for a loooong time (even made Grog a werewolf in his one-shot). So, what if his character is "The Anger" that the EXU team were sent to find. The group are given a mission to investigate wild animal attacks, and track down > fight a full blown werewolf. Bertrand dies or is critically injured, and the defeated werewolf reverts to a person.

That person is a Lycan Bloodhunter played by Travis. He joins the team, and has to struggle to avoid becoming the The Beast again.

I’m not sure about the werewolf angle… but aren’t there a couple of races now that give shape-shifting abilities? Changeling and Shifter, I think? (I must not have whatever book they appear in)

So… maybe Travis isn’t really playing Bertrand; he’s playing a character posing as Bertrand. Which would explain why he’s only level 5.

It wouldn’t be the first time Travis started a campaign with a fakeout. Remember Fjord’s fake accent at the beginning of Campaign 2?

I was getting a vibe that Laudna (Marisha) and Imogen (Laura) are in a witches coven (maybe even a hag coven, lol) with Zhudanna, the old woman they are staying with. When they brought the eggs back for her I halfway expected them to throw the eggs into a cauldron with other body parts and and start chanting "Double double toil and trouble / Fire burn and cauldron bubble."

I think it’s just Matt’s style. He seems to like starting his campaigns with an info-dump. Heck, even C1, which started en media res due to the campaign having already gone on a while as a home game, opened with a pre-recorded monologue from each player about their character and their backstory.

Weirdly, I found it easier to deal with this time than in C2, probably because I went in expecting it, whereas in C2 it caught me by surprise.

Well unlike many of us, if his first session is a bit boring and exposition heavy he doesn't have to worry about players not showing up to the second.

I certainly like it. It's not very long, and you can go back and reference it easily a year down the road.
Heck, just the other day I rewatched the Briarwood scenes to see if there's a mention of black ooze.
