Just use both! Who cares which version a player wants to use? If they bought the new book, let them try it out. If they only have the old book, let them use that one!
If your claim is that no one should care what WotC puts out, why are you here arguing?

Then they've had 10 years to house rule them! I've houseruled GWM in my own games.

If people are expecting the new books to be some fresh start where they don't have to worry about balance or power creep anymore, they're going to be sorely disappointed.
I'm sure some people are, and will be.

Everyone doesn't have control of the house rules at the table. House rules are good, but things working out of the box is better.

I don't expect perfect balance from 5.5, but from what we've seen, one of the major design goals of the revamp is to improve balance.
But the DM does. The DM owns balance. If a player thinks they're over or underpowered, petition the DM.

I have an opposite view. Since 1/3 isn't planning on going forward, that means there's room for a substantial 5e-grognard community to continue -there are enough differences between the non-editions and unmet wants with the new one for it to be possible-. I mean if the desire for iterating, tinkering, and hacking doesn't destroy group unity before it has had the time to gel.
We have no idea what portion of current 5e players is "not planning on going forward" with D&D 2024, since the poll never asked if they were playing D&D right now. Given a lot of comments in the thread, it sure seems like a disproportionately large number of the people saying they don't plan on buying D&D 2024 are also saying they stopped buying D&D books a while ago.

I'm not going to ever clarify in my statements that it's my personal opinion or not. If you disagree with my personal opinion, we can discuss that. Reminding me that this is my personal opinion is a waste of time for both of us.
I'm reminding everyone else that your statements should not be taken as objective fact, even if they're stated as if they were.

Yea, that’s the attitude that doesn’t make sense to me. We’ve had the 2014 paladin and 2014 GWM for 10 years. They haven’t broken the game. Why would they somehow becomes problems just because a new book is out?
Again, that is also human nature. They "fixed" those classes for 2024, so they MUST have been broken! ;)

And just to be clear, I agree with you that it can be done, but in my experience it takes a confident and open minded DM for it to happen.
