D&D (2024) Treantmonk's Ranger DPS video:

Look I watch treatments vids, but just dpr is a bad way to judge any of these classes. He called the s+b fighter bad because it's dpr wasn't as high as a 2hander build but I think a s+b fighter will survive and tank. Also I think the EK is the subclass for survival and locking a monster down.
sword&board is kind of low as there is not real "taunt" mechanics in D&D.

you have soft mechanics as Goading attack or Compel duel, but you need to be a real threat to opponents to target you, that is why a raging barbarian is a tank but S&B champion is not.
And even with Shield master feat, you will not get a great mileage for tanking.

that is why I have a additional shield feat to make you a bigger target.

Shield slam:
requires 15+ STR
+1 STR
you can make shield slam attack as a Bonus action
attack deal 1d6 B damage or P damage if you add shield spikes on the shield(for a few GP). attack uses STR for attack and damage bonuses.
you can apply Push, Topple, Slow, Sap or Graze mastery to attack.

this added little damage and utility can make you more threatening on the battlefield and it is real simple to use.

Sword and boards only +2 AC. But it's casting you a lot of damage proportionally.

I'm not sure the trade off is worth it. In older editions magic shields were very common so a +3 or 4 AC advantage wasn't to uncommon and the damage difference was around 1 point.

Frost and poison saves are generally con saves.

Any large or bigger creature often has good scores in terns of strength and con.

Ray of frost is great, come of cold eh.
in 3.5e/PF1, you really did feel damage loss if you didn't use 2Hander.

Yup 3.0 was better. 4E you noticed it on 2W, 3W type powers, 5E GWM feat.

I don't mind a bit better but yeah.
didn't 4E has some powers that required 2H weapons?
those were little more powerful

also 4E didn't have +X shields, it was fixed +2 AC, 5E must get rid of +X shield or atleast have that +X armor does not stack with +X shield.

No 5E should let +X shield stack. +5 AC bonus with a +3 shied (hell +4 with +2) is a fair trade off imho.

Shield master got nerfed as well.
