The Untamed Wilds: Caravan Campaign

Tor says,

"I'm pretty light on my feet. I'll go scout it out, staying low and being quiet."

OOC:
Tor's Commercial skill is 10; but he doesn't have Obscurative yet. He chose Athletic for his free point from crossing the threshold.

Sannit chuckles. "It sounds like they already know we're here. Why don't we go introduce ourselves, Tor? The others can hang back and come running if we get into trouble."

Introductions in Order

Sheldon -
I'll go with Sannit, Tor. I'd rather err on the side of caution.
OOC: Tor moves off to the party's right, flanking toward the outer edge of the other sound. Indigo moves to the left in a similar fashion. Bolo stay back with Aust and Revan since introducing Turtle might be a little much for first impressions

GM: As Sannit and Sheldon move directly forward at a deliberate even pace, Tor and Indigo distance themselves and move ahead for better sighting vantage. As Tor moves to the peak of the hill, just about where he could see, he comes face-to-face with a counter-point making the exact same movement, who immediately stops, as unexpectantly surprised as Tor.

Sannit and Sheldon reach parlay distance meeting two equally prepared members of the other party. Since no overt hostilities are evident the other two men nod.

GM: The opposing party looks to be a fairly seasoned group of Mhytres. Since the members of our party are familiar, as some Mhytres do live in Asylim and Boga City, it is also known they are of the Maldrog tribe, which is the most common tribe.

OOC: Sannit and Sheldon nod in return and make gestures of greeting.

Maldrog -
Frohliches Jagen. Meinen Sie friedliche passage?
GM: Sannit or Sheldon can attempt to engage in parlay. What is everyone's intention at this point?

Sannit gives a respectable smile and says back, "Didn't understand a word of that except passage. We're the Seekers from Southroad Fair. We can pass each other peacefully or if you know our language we might engage in some trade."

Since Sannit is meeting strangers there's no way Bolo is letting him out of her sight. She stays back with Turtle, camouflaged, but with her bow out and ready.

Turtle knows the difference between strangers and family. He is content to hide with Bolo, but ready to run out if his family needs him.

Tor stops for a moment, trying to ascertain if this person is hostile. When he does not make any hostile movements, Tor smiles and nods, relaxing his posture. "Greetings, fellow traveler. My name is Tor. Might I inquire as to yours?" he asks politely, in Centrin.

Maldrog -
Ansylin? Ich spreche kein Ansylinisch.

GM: The Maldrog shakes his head. Tor and he can hear the sounds of attempted conversation by the others. The Maldrog then points his thumb toward the others in an obvious suggestion of joining them.

OOC: Not knowing Tor has already tried, Sheldon also tries Centrin.

Sheldon -
dtuigeann tu dom ma labhairt liom Centrin?
[sblock=translation]Do you understand me if I speak in Centrin?[/sblock]
GM: Indigo and her counter-point also join the parlay. From the peak of the small hill both parties can see the remainder of the other. Like the Seekers, the Maldrog have a pack animal train, as well as six other members back with them, both male and female. The one in front of Sannit and Sheldon who first spoke, continues.

Ich spreche Maldrog, nur. Handel wird schwierig sein.
GM: Gesturing peaceably, the Maldrog reaches into a belt pouch and pulls forth a gold ingot. He shows everyone the ingot and points to his eyes. While verbal communication is not possible between the to groups, some transfer of information can be made. It is obvious to all that he is asking if the Seekers know where to find any gold, which we do not.

Following his lead, Sheldon asked Sannit for one of the copper ingots and makes the same inquiry. The Maldrog nod and points back the direction he has traveled and makes another gesture which we take to mean one day travel.

The Maldrog then speaks to one of his crew with the animals who joins the discussion and shows a white ingot of metal exactly like the one Sannit found

OOC: How do you wish to proceed from here?

Tor smiles and nods, and begins to casually walk toward Sheldon and Sannit's position. As he approaches, he waves at Sheldon, saying, "Travelers. But they don't speak Centrin."

As an afterthought, as they are walking, Tor turns to the Maldrog who is with him, and says, "What about Ansilyn? Do you speak that tongue?"

As they get to within parlay distance, Tor raises his hand in greeting.

OOC: I am not familiar with common greetings as a player, but since Tor would know, I left it vague. Tor uses whatever sign of greeting is appropriate.

GM: The universal greeting and departure phrase is "Happy Hunting." It is used in all languages in all civilized encounters.

Once everyone is all together, Merin will ask (in the Amiradthan tongue):

"¿Hablas algún Amiradthan? No soy fluido, pero hablo un poco. Tal vez podamos comunicarnos de esa manera."

[sblock=Translation, for GM's convenience.]
"Do you speak any Amiradthan? I am not fluent, but I speak a little. Perhaps we can communicate in that way."
[/sblock]
GM: Nice! As it turns out. I did not need the translation. I apparently can still read this language fairly well.

Since the focus is off him, Sannit will concentrate and attempt to use way to better understand the languages being spoken.

When Bolo sees everyone coming together she will come out of hiding with Turtle. They will not approach, Bolo doesn't have anything to say anyway, but will stay back within bow range.

Turtle watches the humans with mild interest, staying by Bolo's side. He would rather be hunting or foraging.

GM: It is quickly noted that the group of Maldrog do not speak any other language than their own, but they do exhibit intelligence. General perception shows that they as well as Bolo have archers en guard with the pack animals but they are armed with crossbows. Also, this is the party's first exposure to pieces of metal armor for the Maldrog have several small pieces. More intended observation indicates that their weaponry is of a better quality.

After some effort on both parts, names are successfully exchanged. The party also learns that this particular group of Maldrog call themselves Sonnenerz Sammler which is taken to mean Sun Rock Collectors or Sun Ore Collectors. It is gathered that the Collectors hail from a Maldrog village some weeks north.

GM: At this point, I specifically need to know how the party wishes to handle the inquiry about the white metal ingot.
