The Untamed Wilds: Caravan Campaign

Sannit looks around at the group. "How do we want to play this? Ambush or diplomacy? We know they have no problem with violence. I'm fine with jumping right into the fight because I think they will fight anyway, but I want to know what the rest of you think."

Bolo attempts to sense the mood of the people ahead.

Turtle waits for Bolo.

Sheldon -
I'm in for ambush. We know the group to offer people as sacrifice. I think we are likely dealing with cannibals. While I cannot be the stab another in the back type of person. I will volunteer to be bait since I'm terrible with a bow. I'm thinking we should divide up our archers to ply them from both flanks. I figure these people to be hostile to the point of charging to attack immediately when I'm seen.

GM: Bolo shift the focus of her concentration while everyone is still in close proximity in order to make use of the extended range. This also allows everyone to detect the same impression. The emanations coming from the people are the most confusing any of the Seekers has ever experienced. There emotional level seems more akin to a feral animal than a person. The whole lot is profoundly disturbed.

Sannit nods to Sheldon's plan and says, "Well you're not going out there as bait alone. I'll go with you and Bolo will take one flank."

Bolo reaches over and scratches Turtle under his chin. "You stay with me," she says.

Turtle nods. He can sense the anticipation of battle in the humans.

Tor will use Merin's Recurve Hickory Shortbow (the one that requires a 5 Strength) and he will be a flanker.

Merin will stay close to Bolo and Turtle; his tactic will be to paralyze any attackers who come within his range.

OOC: REASONING: If they are feral, then their strength is probably in the physical realm. They should be susceptible to mental attacks such as paralysis.

Meeting the Headhunters

OOC: Merin and Tor take the left flank. Bolo and Turtle take the right. Indigo stays with Sannit and Sheldon.

Sannit, Sheldon, and Indigo count so that an appropriate amount of time is allowed for the archers to get into place. The headhunters are camped in a small vale which provides some cover for the archers to get close and ready.

After the chosen amount of time, the bait moves directly at the camp, but quietly so as to close without giving early alarm.

GM: The scene before the Seekers is very strange. They are a mixed group of men and women. Two of the men are fighting one another in the center of their semi circle. They are not using weapons, but it appears fairly vicious, while the others are laughing and making grunting noises.

Their thin black bodies are covered in dirt-like paste similar in coloration to the gravelly soil in this area. Their bodies are protected by decently manufactured leather bracers on their forearms that are also adorned with tusks. The men and women both wear leather skirts and shin guards but are bare chested.

Their weaponry, by contrast, is rudimentary, being stone headed spears and bone axes.

GM: So intent is the group on the fight that they do not realize that they have been surrounded.

Sheldon whistles. The headhunters look at him, and without any hesitation, immediately take up bone axes in each hand charging at Sheldon, Sannit, and Indigo.

Everyone will need a random roll to determine combat sequencing. Flankers will have surprise for their first action, but sequencing will still needs to be determined. No one will have a time hindrance for their first action due to surprise.

OOC: Unless its too much of a hassle for you, gm, I will trust you to make my rolls. I don't want to have to register for the dice roller.

Sannit will stand in formation with Sheldon and Indigo. He will fire his crossbow into the closest charging opponent and then switch to his spear.

Bolo make sure she takes up a position so that when she fires there is no chance she will strike an ally with a miss.

Turtle hunkers down next to Bolo and waits, keeping his senses open for hostile humans. If anyone threatens Bolo he will charge.

GM: It is quite convenient for me to make the random rolls. I will always post the results.

Bolo's 1st arrow blows through the back and out the chest of her 1st target. The male, actually, takes 2 more strides before falling dead.

Sheldon targets a female. She staggers but continues to charge forward. Body: 2.

Merin targets a male. He falls flat on his face while still in mid stride. Mind: -3.

Bolo's 2nd arrow pierces the belt of a female causing her to fall. Body: 0.

Sannit's arrow lodges in the chest of a male, having to step aside as he falls forward. Body: 0, Mind: 7.

Headhunter female swings her axe at Sheldon, but he dodges.

Headhunter male swings his axe at Sannit, which he easily avoids.

Headhunter female swings her axe at Indigo, but she counter-strikes. Body: 0, Mind: 4.

The attack of the remaining Headhunter on Sannit, Sheldon, and Indigo is avoided.

Tor's arrow pierces the abdomen of the female charging him and lodges. Body: 0, Mind: 0, Essence: 7.

Turtle launches from his crouched position catching a male's head in his wide maul, crushing his skull, and slinging him aside like small refuse.

A last female that makes it to Bolo is unable to connect with her axe.

There are 4 Headhunters that remain physically capable, including the one Merin paralyzed, who suddenly shakes his head, regaining mobility. They will fight until death.

GM: The Seekers readily dispatch the remaining Headhunters without difficulty. As the last one falls, only 14 seconds of time have passed. What is everyone's intention?

Aftermath

Tor is excited, and begins searching the bodies. This battle went well, and no one was injured, which Tor takes as a good sign. Tor is also impressed with Turtle's strength, and gives him a playful pat on the head.

Merin, however, is not happy at all; he looks anxious. His eyes scan the area for any potential hiding place that could harbor more enemies.

~That was TOO easy. Perhaps these were workers, instead of warriors. We should remain cautious.~

Merin drums his knuckles lightly on Tor's head. "Stay alert, my friend. I don't think we're out of the woods yet."

OOC: Merin will use Way to sense the possible presence of more headhunters.

The Spoils of War

GM: Merin and Tor receive 15 XP for the encounter.

Tor is excited and begins searching the bodies.
GM: The Headhunters are Faethrin. They appear similar to the Da'Roneh, but their skin is chromatic rather than melaninic. They have nothing of monetary value. Their armor is quite well made. Each is wearing Bracers, a Belt, and a Skirt. Their weapons are junk.

Merin, however, is not happy at all; he looks anxious. His eyes scan the area for any potential hiding place that could harbor more enemies.

OOC: Merin will use Way to sense the possible presence of more headhunters.
GM: As Merin looks around he notices, almost immediately, that the well traveled path continues on eastward from this location winding through the small hills and crags.

Manipulating Way to determine if anyone else is near, he notices 3 things.

  • 1: There is no one within 8 paces other than the Seekers.
2: His range is much diminished compared to the group effort.
3: Having done more manipulation than usual he notices fatigue.
