Let's see, started around 1977 at 16 with the brown box set that my friend's brother had brought back from college. We quickly switched to the blue box set (which sadly I had kept but disappeared in my last move, although I do still have the original dice) and then AD&D.

What a fun question.

I, like many others, found the D&D Blue Box, dragon/fighter/wizard cover when I was 10. It was in my brother's closet. It was a gift from my dad's friend, Ahmad. My brother was a surfer and didn't really give it any attention. I asked if I could have it, and in order for me to get it, I had to do his chores for a week. I did.

What a magical time. I tried running a game for my brother and his friends, but couldn't understand the rules. So it flopped. But, I continued to read it, over and over. Then at the age of 13, I met a friend at school who had the same book. So we connected and started playing. I still remember staying up until midnight on Friday nights writing modules based off Rush songs. ;)

Thanks for the stroll, Question. Can't wait to dive into everyone else's answers.

I am 50 right now.

I must have been 12 or 13. A nerdy friend at school introduced me to it. Were still in touch with each other. I think we started with...whatever preceded the OD&D blue box? I remember later getting the blue box for Christmas, and it was the newest version of the game.

I am now slowly becoming a very old man. ;)

Simple question. I expect some people to complain about the granularity (or lack thereof) of the choices, but. . . 🤷‍♂️
Actually, I am happy with your granularity.

It seems to correspond well to the curve of magnitude, which is a meaningful way to understand aging.

Using round numbers, the curve looks like:

10
13
16
20
25
32
40
50
63
79
100
130
