D&D General Poll: How tough should 20th Level Fighters be? (MCU edition)

Which of these is close to where a fighter should max out in D&D?

  • Post GG2 Star-Lord

  • Black Widow / Hawkeye

  • Black Panther / Captain America

  • Spider-Man

  • Somewhere in this Big Gap

  • Hulk (really good, but no flight or turning to electricity)

  • Captain Marvel / Thor

Results are only viewable after voting.
The problem is that they're fighting some challenge rating 1/4 mooks here. Level 20 D&D characters need to fight way tougher things. Those mooks almost managed to take down Batman here, had they been trolls, let alone goristros, he would have been batpaste.
Indeed. I'm not getting "as powerful as someone who can cast Wish and many other effects" vibes here.
I'm not even seeing much indication that Batfleck and Arrow are much above 5th level to be honest.

RE: The idea of wanting a new class of Thor (or movie Captain Marvel) level fighter and the old fashioned fighter class to be in the same game and tiers.

In the end, one of them is a "mortal man in a metal suit".

<insert iron man trying energy blasts and physical combat. Thor doesn't care and hits back>

<Iirc, insert page showing that the threat is the eastern seaboard being destroyed by hurricanes.>

I'm pretty sure he would have to be holding back for Cap or Black Panther or Black Widow or Hawkeye or Spider-Man to just not be dead.

How are you even getting that indication?
Decent AC means they're not getting hit that much. They have the HP to soak up what damage they do take. They don't seem to make attacks against more than a couple of people in any 6-second segment of time over the overall length of the fight.
Taking out 12 mooks in 6 or so rounds is quite within the capability for a tier 2 fighter.

Doesn't have to be balanced around the current fighter if its not a current fighter class. The point about making it a new class is that is can be balanced around the other classes in the game.
Although I believe very few people actually do think that a level 20 PC of any class is of the level of Thor or MCU Captain Marvel.

Str 30 = 40k pounds, or 20 tons.
With that you can literally punch your way through a mountain, think about earth movers and such.

You don't know how much it weighs and are totally guessing.

According to the writer they say it weight 3 million tons.

3 million tons crashing into concrete is going to make a humungous hole. Which although interesting what we see onscreen contradicts this, so we can totally ignore the writer's statement.
I'm not totally guessing. It is in fact a very educated guess based on size, armor, support, etc. My statement of 100+ tons is very low and virtually guaranteed to be correct. 3 million tons? Dunno about that. There's a whole lot of real estate between my correct statement of 100+ tons and 3 million tons, though, all of which supports both Hulk and Thor lifting 100+ tons. Are you really sure this is the hill you want to die on?

In fact the clips I showed show your statement to be false.

Batman makes about four attacks in the space of five seconds.
Hurls a crate that must weigh well over 100 pounds.

He attacks a good six or so times during six seconds here.
Now the Green Arrow scenes show your statement to be totally false.

Within six seconds he attacks well over half a dozen times.

Again we get a large number of attacks within six seconds showing again that your statement is false.

Try again.

You cannot prove your claim.
You have no idea what it is composed of.
Flying speed
Thus you cannot calculate mass, or force.

Yep. There is no way to reconcile both 'Thor' and 'Iron Man' as Fighter. Simply wont happen.

Anyone wanting to play 'Thor' wants to be a Caster/Melee, that by 20, is well, a god.

The game cannot be built to support that, being the same class as a 'mortal man in a metal suit.' It just doesnt work, especially in a system as loose as 5e.
