I think you're right about that: Tasha's Cauldron of Everything was a turning point for the way that character origins were going to be presented in the game, going forward. Before that book came out, it was mostly just chatter about lore changes (especially drow and orcs.)

At least people aren't fighting about Lawful Good orcs anymore?

Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft -1 - Didnt even have alignment for the monsters, or assigned ASI on the species, pathetic.
ALignment has NO mechanical meaning anymore. Hasn't had any at all since 5e came out. So creatures don't need it. TCE introduced the no more ASI on species so you down voted wrong thing if those are your reasons
