    Please critique this house-rule

Yeah, under the normal rules, a character will have a post-racial primary stat of 18 or 20, for a +4 or +5 bonus at 1st level. They'll pump that at every opportunity, gaining +4 in bonus and +15 in half-level bonus over the course of 30 levels, for a +23 or +25 bonus at level 30. Under the...

    sliding with Overwhelming Strike

Right, and your post made it sound like you were implying that Footwork Lure with a Reach weapon would let you slide the opponent two spaces into your former space, which used to work with the printed-in-the-book text of the power until errata was issued specifically to prevent this.

    sliding with Overwhelming Strike

Footwork Lure has been errataed to also be one square, just like Overwhelming Strike, so it no longer works with Reach.

    Hybrid Monk/Ranger

This is why Hybrid Striker-Strikers don't really work very well. In general, Strikers and Controllers need to use their Standard Action to do their schtick. Defenders and Leaders mostly use Minor and Immediate Actions to do theirs. (Hybrid Fighters being the exception, as they need to use...

    Hybrid Monk/Ranger

What are you trying to do with this character? Mechanically, hybrid striker-strikers aren't too hot, as they can only use half their abilities at a time. Hybrid striker-leaders, however, are the bomb. If you hybridized ranger with warlord (melee), shaman (ranged), or cleric (either), all of...

Spells you want them to bring back

There was no indication of your knowledge of this amongst the uses of Prestidigitation. And you can use it for dealing with need-clean-pants situations. My wizard has certainly made use of it after every fight in a sewer, and has yet to encounter a situation that led to producing his own sewage.

Spells you want them to bring back

Prestidigitation, which is an at-will utility power Wizards can take for free at first level, covers that. I frequently argue that it's the single most useful power in the entire game. Among its many uses are "Change the color of items in 1 cubic foot" and "Clean or soil items in 1 cubic foot".

What are you playing at the moment?

As I posted in a similar thread not very long ago, my character in our ongoing Dark Sun Game is an elf hybrid Ranger-Shaman with several powers from the Elemental Priest theme and a Druid multiclass for more healing and the unlimited utility of shapeshifting. In LFR, the only two characters I...

D&D 4E Do you really want Greyhawk and Dragonlance for 4e

This. I don't give a crap about NPC antics and centuries of painfully detailed history. Settings are a tool for telling good stories, which are about characters. If you're writing a novel or making a TV series, the setting is there to serve the needs of the specific story you're telling. If...

    Moment of Glory

It's not like Moment of Glory wrecks encounters in completely different ways from every other ability and has to be specifically planned for. Minions? Does the party have a decent Wizard? If so, assume every minion will be dead by the end of round two anyway. Ongoing damage? Is it one of...

    Moment of Glory

How about four hybrid striker-clerics? With the right picks, hybrid striker-leaders can put out as much non-daily damage as a full striker while doing about 60% of the work of a leader, including big flashy save-the-party dailies. I've played an Avenger-Cleric and a Ranger-Cleric, both in part...

    Moment of Glory

Hmm, let's actually work this out. Let's say a typical 5-person party vs a level one encounter with five level one monsters. They have +6 to hit vs AC and do an average of 9 damage. A level one Cleric in chain will have a 16 AC, So the monsters hit 55% of the time, doing a net 4 damage each...

    Moment of Glory

The best way to deal with this power is to kill the Cleric. You're sustaining the obvious magical effect that's protecting your whole party? You get focus-fired. Even with Resist 5 all and your Healing Words, you're going down in two rounds. Then the defender gets to have fun when monsters...

    Moment of Glory

How is it antagonistic? You're trying to harry the player into forgetting to make a completely obvious move. You're engaging in social pressure to make the person screw up. The Cleric wouldn't just "forget" to keep sustaining the spell, yet you're trying to get the player to do that. At my...

    Moment of Glory

Yeah, I generally find that GMing like an antagonistic jerk and trying to trap players into Gotcha! with no takebacks is an excellent way to tone down player effectiveness. Sometimes it even keeps them from showing up to the game in the first place!

What non-"essential" characters do you play?

I'm in love with hybrid leaders. These days, my two LFR characters are: • Illyria Stormborn, a Stormsoul Genasi Ranger/Warlord-multiclassed Spiked Chain user/Infernal Strategist who hands out ridiculous bonuses while frostcheesing enemies four or five times a round between Twin Strike, Minor...

WotC sayz "People don't use rituals much" - O RLY?

In my game, I don't bother keeping track of gold, and rituals only cost time to use, no permanent resources of any sort. That almost gets them used regularly. I think any cost beyond that makes people not want to use them.

    Teleportation at level 1

You don't have a specific wild shape. You pick what you turn into each time you use the power, though given individuals tend to favor particular forms: "You choose a specific form whenever you use wild shape… Your choice of Primal Aspect might suggest a specific form you prefer to assume".

    Teleportation at level 1

Trying to imprison someone who can teleport 25 feet once every five minutes to somewhere they can see is trivial compared to trying to hold a shapeshifter, and you can get that party trick for the low, low cost of a Multiclass Druid feat.

    D&D 5E The all-inclusive 4/5E DDI

The ones that want to make money by selling impulse-buy tangible paraphernalia that probably has a substantially higher turnover rate than most supplements? I'm inclined to believe that snacks, CCGs, and dice (in that order) are what are keeping game stores afloat these days anyway.
