[Adventure] Rage of the Savage Lands (DM: Dekana, Judge: TwoHeadsBarking)

The Commandant has done well to deflect the party's continued attacks, but she is clearly at the end of her rope. She struggles to hold her sword raised, and she wobbles as if she's about to topple over. But despite that, she isn't lacking for confidence.

"You - you can't win!" Vahl roughly wipes the sweat from her brow with her metal pauldron, almost knocking herself out in the process. "This sword grants me unlimited power. I have not yet begun to fight!"

Vahl strikes twice at her goliath opponent and hits both times. Once again, Eithal feels insidious shadows tearing at her mind and sapping her willpower. The archers, at the commandant's instruction, fire arrows into the supernatural black cloud. The arrows whiz narrowly past Beatrice's head.

At that moment, a loud clang from outside announces to the party that the iron gate at the castle's gatehouse has been slammed shut.

Damen shakes off the jolt from the kenku's spell, and saunters up to the tiring captain, a blade suddenly in his hand. You might want to take a step around in a moment, he cautions the goliath, and suddenly everything around him goes dark—true dark, not the faux shade of Scarm's spells. While nothing can be seen, an errant bolt flying out of the cloud and a drow curse indicates Damen did not succeed in his endeavor.

Commandant Vahl manages to turn aside Beatrice's strike. Instead of decapitating her foe, Beatrice is forced to aim lower and tear a deep gash in the Commandant's side. Vahl falls to the ground with a shriek.

"This can't happen!" Vahl cries out. "She said this sword could defeat any foe!"

"And so it can! If you want it to..." a booming, feminine voice echoes through the hall. It seems to have originated from the cursed sword itself. The voice is the same that zombie Kaz was speaking with in the swamp.

Vahl responds while parrying one more strike from Beatrice. "Yes! More than anything!"

The moment the Commandant utters those words, a great blast of shadow erupts from the sword that sends everyone and everything flying. The archers and the heroes are all swept back by the dark mass into the walls. The chairs and long tables are overturned. And the door to the room is slammed shut. The force of the impact is terrible; everyone is knocked senseless for what feels like minutes.

The room is enveloped in an unnatural darkness. The only light comes from the center of the room where the cursed sword pulses with a dark and purple light. Vahl, unaffected by the wave of shadow, remains kneeling by the blade, her features masked by the darkness.

OOC: The encounter ends when Commandant Vahl is defeated. Go ahead and take a short rest (don't forget to include the healing that Beatrice just gave everyone).

There's another fight after this, so you should heal up.
