Alignment and real world examples...

The only problem here is that the movie takes place in a parallel dimension where there happens to be a kingdom called Scotland and happens to be another called England and happen to be people named William Wallace, Edward I, and Robert the Bruce. Beyond that, the movie has almost nothing at all to do with what little history we actually have on the period.

OTOH, it's a pretty neat film :D

Of course, Through/By Plato.

Most people reading this should have a good understanding about the ideal concepts of right and wrong put forth from the listed authors/dialoguers. Seeing as most western societies are based on thier works/conversations.

If all goes to S%*$ I guess that is what the ! button is for.

Here is a few more intresting ones:

Gen. D. McAuther. NG? Chaffed at every commander he ever had, but according to accounts had a true love and pride of the troops he commanded?

Anyone want to take a shot at J. Edgar Hoover? Does Crossdressing cross the conventions of Law or good? heh

I'd nominate Thomas Jefferson for CG. He was an Anti-Federalist and possibly the principle mind behind much of the limited-government wording of the US Constitution. It is also clear from his writings that he sought not just freedom, but benevolent freedom.

I'd go more CE.

After all, he helped overthrow his benevolent, enlightened and rightful British owners (alignment = Lawful DouplePlusGood or at least Lawful Mad) causing wholesale bloodshed and slaughter. Then he made up his own laws!!! Bah!

Well yea... That is why I said in the movie. I think that princess he slept with was like 5 years old or something... That cannot be Good!

Exactly what I was talking about. Good or Evil in the real world can't be judged on a cosmic scale like it can in D&D because frequently someone who might be seen as good on one side of an argument is seen as evil on the other.

So perhaps expand it a bit. How can we limit a player to an alignment, when the 9 alignments really have no real world meaning? Perhaps that is for a different discussion though...

I think you've hit the problem on the head there!

And it can get pretty personal as well... especially where examples collide with living memory.

That's why I figure the alignment of inanimate objects is easier to discuss. Neutral and uncontroversial!

Yes another oft had discussion - and remember many of us don't use alignment in the game because of its essential meaninglessness

anyway Husseins ben mentioned so anyone want to do a guess on the Alignment of Mr Bush? (see politics always gets involved in this kind of thing!)

William Wallace! Great Example. I would also say CG all the way. He shunned the "offices" given to him, and fought for the little guy. At least in the movie he did.

and for those who opposed his views. he would be CE and fighting only for himself, but dragging others into the fray.
