Battlestar Galactica: Season 2 Part 8; NSCR/9.9.2005

It's entirely possible that LL's character has a transmitter somewhere hidden. After all, they used one way back in 33 to track the fleet, and nobody noticed until Baltar implicated... Leoban was it? I can never remember the two.

I loved seeing... ugh, naming these Boomers is getting rediculous... the Boomer on Caprica cheering that she's alive, and then rubbing it in Six's face. I would have liked to have seen the other two known Cylons there watching as well. The scene does bring up an interesting theory... there might not be a Boomer-net, but it does appear that there are copies that are more clearly in command than others, and they're all on Caprica.

Also, the podcast is hilarious for this episode. I can pretty much guarantee I won't be watching the show completely the same again.

IIRC, there were only two Raiders that attacked during the show, when the film wasn't quite finished filming yet. Also, those two were shot down, which would kind of make their ability to relay video difficult.
Has it been established whether or not Cylons have FTL comm? I assume they do because "uploading" after death seems to happen across great distances. Even after death, given the last episode on Caprica and Boomer's "You ask why?" comment to Adama. So, being shot down wouldn't have neccessarily prevented them from transmitting back to Caprica first (assuming that's where the theatre was.)

In fact, it begs the question why the raiders would have needed to be there at all, since the models have been shown to transmit information across inter-stellar distances. Two explainations I can think of:

The writers are emphasising the fact that the "human" models aren't as machine-like as we keep thinking. Sure, they may share memory and experiences with each other via "upload", but they don't think in binary. To transmit an exact copy of the video file required a machine, such as the raiders.

Second thought: remember the filming and questions during the raiders appearance. The cylon reporter was observing human behaviour during the attack, asking questions about fear. The cylons are studying the emotional impact of the attack on the fleet. This was probably the primary reason for the raiders' attack. The entire documentary was an analysis of the psychology of the humans as they deal with their situation, which was interesting because it wasn't concentrating on a tactical study of them. Why is this type of information more important to the cylons?

Wasn't the guy Baltar accused of being a cylon (and turned out to be right) in the mini-series a reporter as well? What does it say about the cylons (and their view of us) that they've used the media twice (at least) as an infiltration point of humanity?

Keep in mind that it was implied in the torture/interrogation of one Cylon by Starbuck that perhaps the Cylons in the fleet are too far out of range for their signal to go back. Perhaps the raiders were either acting as relays, or putting something in the system to do the relay for them.

my idea:
Several Raiders jump near the Galactica to observe the ship or recieve the reporters transmission. 2 Raiders are detected by the Galactica and are forced to engage - either they need to get that close to get the transmission and realy it to another raider, or it was by accident and they had to cover the other Raiders. At least, once all data was captured, the remaining Raiders jump back.

That's how I interpreted it, that the two raiders were just nodes along which the video was uploaded. Also, the reporter says "We lost two raiders relaying the images back to the fleet, but I think the sacrafice was worth it." It doesn't say that those were the only two in the area.

The things the Cy-doc and Boomer said about Starbuck on Caprica suggests that the Cylon she interogated and the President spaced may have downloaded after his death.

There are probably several more of those Cy-pods in the fleet and as next week teased, the cylon computer virus is not quite gone either. Someone needs a better virus scan.

I was wondering one thing, did Starbuck tell what the Cy-doc did to her to her friends on the Galactica?

I agree that the idea with the two raiders is that they were relaying the video, but what I don't get is how they managed to relay what was happening on the bridge after they were blown up.

Again: Maybe there were more than 2 Raiders, but only these 2 were detected.

Heh...

Do not know about anyone else... Outside of the original music at the end of the documentary -

Gaeta with collar undone and cig in hand made the whole show for me.

I had a good chortle over that one!
