Definition of [W]?

The PHB uses the keyword [W] in many places, but it doesn't actually define it anywhere!

Does this mean "amount of damage done by your weapon"?

When [W] is preceeded by a number, is that a multiplier?

So if a power says "5[W]" does that mean "5 times your weapon damage"?

So - wow! Some powers do 7 times damage!

I do have a follow-up question then:

Do you roll the damage that many times, or just roll once and multiply by that number? (I assume you just roll once and multiply.)

No, roll multiple times. That way the fighter gets to roll a fistfull o-dice too.

oh and any feats, like dwarven weapon mastery work like STR, that is they add their damage once, no matter how many [w]s
