Epic Level Feats: I meet the pre-reqs, why can't I take it?

We represent the LollyPop guild......

As a DM there is no way in hell I would ever let any player take an epic level feat without first hitting level 21.

As a DM there is no way in hell I would ever allow a player to end up with a Dex of 24 at 8th level.

What was this a point buy character? 48? 36? :D

My point was that, although these are epic level feats, given the pre-reqs listed with each feat, they just don't seem very "Epic."

Whatever the pre-reqs, swarm of arrows if definitely a feat that DOES feel very epic in its effect. Let's face it, it lets you fire an arrow at every single enemy within 30'. Nope, not a chance that this would get implemented in my game before 20th lvl.

I think they were wise in not making the epic feats always come at the end of a long feat change. I actually quite like that.

As for the feat that requires a +9 BAB, it's to stop 10th lvl halfling outriders from taking it. :D

IIRC, it states that stat prereqs are the base stat, not the stat modified by items... so you're a bit short on the Dex since the bonus from the gloves doesn't count ;)

I just looked it up. It simply states you must meet the minimum pre-req when it comes to ability. It doesn't say anything about it being "magically enhanced." It also specifically states that if you lose a pre-req, you lose the feat. So it seems like they are throwing in something to say, in my case for example, if I lose the gloves, I lose the feat.

Don't know about 3.5, but 3.0 doesn't say that. Actually, you can get a feat or into a prestige class if your ability score meets the prereqs due to a magic item. Just don't lose the magic item. :)

I think we can stop with the sarcastic vitriol and the veiled insults, please. The ability score isn't unreasonable, as he's already shown... and it's not a troll.

Thanks, folks. Rudeness isn't cool. :)

Problems with a 24 dex?

I'm just curious why so many people chose to focus on this guy's dex as an issue.

I've got a rogue elf in a campaign, 8th level.

Started off with 20 dex, point buy system. (42 points for those wondering, high fantasy custom style)

4th and 8th level points into it = 22.

Found a book at about 5th level for a +2 dex = 24.

It's not that hard and that's not even with temporary magic items like gloves or anything.

I would agree though that the character would need to have the dexterity requirement naturally.

*Edited for... Oh hell... Just don't read this one...*

I've talked with Andy about this over on his boards, and he's confirmed that 'permanent' boosts like a belt of giant strength are fine for meeting feat prerequisites.

(I don't care for that, so we also talked about how to adjust epic feat requirements to allow for characters who aren't getting a +6-10 to their stat.)

Reveal, did you see my post just above? Let it go, please; he was being rude, it was inappropriate, and now it's over.

Thanks.

If I had been convinced it was a troll, I wouldn't have responded at all, I was not convinced, so I made a "cautious" response.

I believe Bleys is right, has to be base statistic, not Magic Item enhanced. If you gain inherent bonuses (like from a manual of Dexterity) then you are good to go. That being said, if you and your DM agree, go for it, after all, it's your world, paint the sky. I think the other players might get a bit miffed though if you're killing everything and they become bystanders.
