By Challenge Rating the dragons in the book are:
  • Ancient crystal (19)
  • Ancient topaz (20)
  • Ancient emerald (21)
  • Ancient moonstone (21)
  • Ancient sapphire (22)
  • Elder brain dragon (22)

  • Ancient dragon turtle (24)
  • Gem greatwyrm (26)
  • Chromatic greatwyrm (27)
  • Metallic greatwyrm (28)
  • Apects of Bahamut and Tiamat (30)
Interestingly, it appears that the great wyrm category is divided into three -- gem, chromatic, metallic -- rather than by each dragon type.

There's also an alphabetical list of all 20 dragon types in the book:
  • Amethyst

  • Blue
  • Brass

  • White

And sounds freaking awesome and evil. I'm definitely throwing this at my party. I wonder what the effects of the breath weapon are, as Ceremorphosis typically takes a couple weeks to finish.
I thought the same thing, but it will have to be much later. They're only 7th level right now.

It doesn't say what type of damage the brine does, but it does state that the burrowing tadpoles cause recurring psychic damage until killed. My guess is that the breath weapon causes a mix of acid and psychic damage.

While I could always use more dragons, I am surprised by how many more dragons we are getting. IIRC most of the previous editions of the Draconomicon don't introduce this many new dragon types.

I was talking about solely dragons, not dragon adjacent monsters - which we already know this book will include as well. Did any previous book contain more info on dragon turtles like we are getting here?
Right and I was addressing Demetrios1453's assertion that "The previous Draconomicons focused solely on the traditional 10 metallic and chromatics."

So assuming you are talking about whether previous draconomicons introduced as many new types of dragons to their editions the 2e Draconomicon introduced three: Mercury, Yellow, and Steel dragons; the 3.5 Draconomicon introduced 10 true dragon types (eight planar plus Fang and Shadow); the 4e Draconomicon I introduced three: Brown, Gray, and Purple; and the Draconomicon II introduced seven: Brass, Bronze, Cobalt, Mercury, Mithral, Orium, and Steel to 4e.

"Focused" as in "did deep dives on ecology, lairs, etc." In this one were getting focuses on 20 types, which is far more than usual. The 2e and 3e versions spent the vast majority of their page count on the classic 10. Adding "solely" in there without modifiers was a poor choice of wording on my part and muddled what I was trying to say, I apologize.

(And I'm unfamiliar with the 4e versions, so I also apologize if my generalizations aren't correct for those)

I'm assuming that it's an Elder Brain that acts like an Intellect Devourer (replaces the brain of the dragon and takes control of the body). If that's the case, that's freaky and awesome! If it's not, that's how they're going to work in my games! (I'd also probably replace their breath weapon with a flurry of tentacles that come out of the Dragon's mouth and attack and grab enemies.)
From the artwork @darjr posted, that seems to be exactly what it is

We are talking about the lore heavy chapter, not the larger bestiary.
