"Thank you." Ashir says to the modron. Than lookng at Ezra reading he says "Ezra how much are they offering you? I feel like i am being undersold here, look at that zombie, I far better looking than that zombie over there and I bet he got the same deal. " Ashir crosses his arms and rubs his chin a bit on his shoulder.

Leau glances around the place, arms tucked around himself. He even shivers briefly. At least visible zombies aren't as bad as probable-but-unknown zombies.
"Yeah, I don't know about contracts. I'm sorta attached to everything I've been carrying on the old hooves."

(Apologies! Life has been distressingly distracting lately.)

*To Ashir*

"I agree that price-flooring is in play, here, but also consider the net worth of a zombie is the same, regardless of the appearance or condition of a living body. Also, it probably incentivizes less-advantaged people to view their demise as a boon to their families, rather than a burden. By the way, have you met Khefren? He seems nervous and I believe he could use a friend. I offer as an initial topic for conversation between you two the sassiness you appear to share."

*Pauses, then turns to Toranna*

"Toranna, you have been just wonderful but I seem to recall the contract payment being much less. Has it recently increased?"

Talking with Toranna

Toranna's smile fades "Yes, every contract is for the same value, and we have increased the value for faction reasons. Make no doubt, Final death is something we should all welcome. I'm sorry that I could not help you find your friend. I suppose I could show you to the portal to the plane of fire we use if you like?"

Talking with Toranna

"Very well. I will escort you in and show you the portal but for your own safety I strongly suggest that we blindfold you and have faction members assist you to walk. We have found in the past that it is best. The sight of some of our laborers have caused cutters to go barmy. I also need to warn you that should this be some kind of plot and you try to steal anything or are barmy enough to become, violent we will kill you and raise you as laborers." Her voice is cold and business like.

Toranna turns and steps towards the shallow flight of marble steps that sweeps up between two of the buildings dark buttresses to a massive gate of copper sheathed wood. Two small stone guardhouses stand at the bottom of the stairs with several Dustmen guards, one of which approaches Toranna and she stops and looks over her shoulder at you, whispers something to the guard who runs off to the guardhouse and returns with several lengths of cloth.

Going to a Portal of the Plane of Fire... in a Mortuary... full of Undead... blindfolded.
"Yeah, sure. What could go wrong?", said Khefren, talking to himself out loud. And why not hopping with our hands behind our backs?

This place is crazy. I'm not even sure if those guys know where they are going. Let's look at the bright side: at least, nobody will be looking for me in there...

"All of you seem very interested by going down there and it will certainly be a great experience, I grant you that... but I prefer not being blindfolded, if it doesn't broke any rule. Regarding my own sanity, I think I'm pretty well ranked compared to the local standard. And I can walk by myself, thanks for your concern."

"Oh, Toranna! A plot! Raised as laborers! What they say about you Dustmen being totally humorless seems untrue, at this point! You are a proverbial laugh riot, one in which I would proverbially participate were I physiologically equipped to produce laughter. I have tried but I was told the resulting sound was 'unnerving' and 'brought pained, fearful tears to the eyes of young and old alike' so I no longer practice it. If it makes a comic gem such as you satisfied, I will oblige your request for a blindfolded entrance."

Entering the Mortuary

Toranna seems a little disappointed at the decision... And more than a little unnerved at the concept of a Modron laughing.

"Very well." She says to you before turning to one of the other Dustmen, speaking softly to him before he disappears into the large domed structure. "Stick with me, I will make sure that we stay away from the catacombs and have sent a Namer ahead of us to be sure that we don't run into anything to unsettling for you."

Toranna leads you into the Mortuary, through the great double doors into a softly lit, impressive chamber featuring tall vaulted ceilings and a black marble floor so polished and clean that you can see your reflection in it clearly. The walls are decorated with dark geometric carvings, the air is warm and smells faintly of herbs. There are 5 other Dustmen in the room, one seems to instinctively start to approach you and then stops, nods and smiles warmly, then goes back about his business.

Toranna: "Welcome to the Mortuary, this is our Great Hall, a place for funerals to celebrate a loved one who has moved on to final death. This way please." Toranna motions to her left and leads you into a much smaller chamber.
This room is paved with dark flagstones and roofed with heavy stone vaults. Blank doorways carved in stone line the walls. Empty torch sconces and black wall hangings indicate that this room may be used for ceremonies from time to time. The ceiling is so low that Leau forced to use caution to avoid hitting his head. In the center of the chamber is a blank stone slab suspended by chains from the ceiling, allowing it to be faced toward any direction and moved around the room.

Toranna opens a door and walks into a spiral stairwell and you all start to climb. You aren't positive how high you go (Except for Lex who likely counts the steps) but judging by the landings when you stop at a door you are on what would be the 3rd floor. "This is not normally a public area" Toranna warns.

As the door opens the stench of rotting flesh hits your nose. Entering this room you see it is one expansive chamber, divided by the vaulting that supports the roof. Narrow galleries run around the perimeter of the room, with dark portals gaping. Chains suspended from the ceiling support a number of iron platforms similar to those in the chambers below. Several sheet-draped bodies await interment, and several zombies shamble across a blood stained floor, moving the bodies or greasing the chain tracks mindlessly. From one corner a brilliant reddish light dances beneath the roof catching your attention. Two Dustmen are standing before a portal filled with raging flame. They seem to be sliding a body through the flaming portal. You watch as the body disappears into the flaming void the cold air rippling above and a warm breeze taking the chill out of the room momentarily.

The Zombies are a disturbing sight. They have numbers on their heads and are in various stages of rot, one you guess to be older has only it's bones left on one arm which seems to have been repaired at some point with leather strapping and another is completely unphased by the fly crawling around on it's eyeball.

"Here we are." Toranna says flatly.

OOC: If you have any questions for her or want to talk along the way please just note in your post at what point you want to say it and I will work it into my next post.

"Lucky us..."
Seeing all this industry of death, Khefren spontaneously began to reminisce the embalming process of the Mummies who served in Sseth Undead army.

Arriving in the portal room, he looked around, nervously.
"It's a nice place you have here. Very... heartwarming."

Mumbling to the others, "Ok, we've seen it. Now let's get out of here."
