WOIN How does the "Sunder" Universal Exploit work?

The "Sunder" exploit on p. 67 of the NOW core rule book says "You target your opponent’s weapon or shield with the intention of breaking it. The weapon has same Melee Defense as its wielder; you take –2d6 to strike a weapon and no penalty to strike a shield." So if you succeed on hitting that weapon you targeted with the intention of breaking it, it is implied that you do your damage to the weapon instead of the wielder. I say implied because the "Mighty Sunder" upgrade to this exploit implies the latter, since that says you also do half the Sunder damage to the wielder. Presuming this implied meaning is correct, then that means weapons need HEALTH values, and none of the equipment or weapons, except for Vehicles, listed in Chapter 2 Modern Equipment, have any HEALTH stats. Does that mean one needs to calculate the HEALTH values for individual weapons as per the section on Objects on p. 161?
