(IC) Against the Giants PBP Group 2

Donnell
Race: Human
HP: 43/43 TH: 14
AC: 17/19 w shield
Pass Perc: 14
Pass Inv: 10
Pass Ins: 18
Initiative: +2
HD: 5/6
Action Surge: 1/1
Second Wind 0/1
arrows: 16

Donnell rushes in to distract the giant. He attacks with his rapier but the strike goes wide. He tries to push the giant down.

OOC:
attack; push: 1D20+5 = [6]+5 = 11
1D20+7 = [8]+7 = 15

Bad rolls. He has to make an opposed STR check and beat DC 15 or knocked prone (yeah, I know, tripping giants is stupid but I'm playing with the mechanic a bit)

Will use action surge to attack again then disengage to let Kharu through.

IF TRIPPED attack hits.
attack with advantage: 1D20+5 = [4]+5 = 9
1D20+5 = [10]+5 = 15

damage: 1D8+1D6+2 = [4]+[2]+2 = 8

IF NOT TRIPPED: attack misses and Donnell withdraws

@Steve Gorak did we get new Temp. HP after the Short rest?

Kahru saw the Colonel leap over the giant as it fell dead on the floor and with wide eyes and grin went scrambling over the bulk behind the elder man. The blow of the massive paddle sent the colonel slamming into the door and the Barbarian felt that surge of rage as he rushed into to parry a second blow, swinging Waythe with all his might to chop into the torturers shoulder while it was disdavantaged recovering its meat hook from the splintered door.

OOC: So I thought the Colonel was in pretty good shape: during the short rest he was nearly at full, here. I sort of like him being completely clocked by this guy, though. I will assume that he's not down to 1 and attack, but if I'm wrong or have made a mistake, that of course is fine, and I'll live (or not!) with the consequences.

So first: when hit, the Colonel will use Storm Wrath:
When hit by someone w/in 5’, use reaction for 2d8= 6 lightning damage, DEX save vs DC 18 for half. Because it's lightning damage, he is also pushed away 10' (no save). (use 1/5).

That blow hurt, and the Colonel felt it. He's not seen a club like that, with the blade inset, since the War of the Red Ogres, and there is a haunting memory of the festering tears that the wounds leave a body with.

The Colonel grits his teeth, as he stands up. He raises his shield again, and commands the Giant to put down his blade. He does not expect him to comply, but death makes cowards of many. Holy flames fall from the roof onto the Giant's head.

OOC: Attack: Sacred Flame (DC 18 Dex or 3d8=13 radiant, save for half).
Move: The Colonel still stands between the Giant and his allies, ready to take the brunt of any attack. (and here I'm really hoping I'm right about his hit points!)

OOC: don’t forget the 14 thp from Gimlak’s inspiring leader

Doc was the first to move to help the Colonel, and he stood with a practiced ease on the back of the first fallen giant, and the sound of his pistols echoed deeply down the corridor. The giant took the first bullet without stopping, and the second managed to glance off a buckle on his heavy apron. Then Donnell and Kahru climbed over the body and took turns trying to knock the giant down. Donnell shoved at the giant's knees before ducking back into the hall to make room for Kahru to leap up and hack at the giant's shoulder.

The big brute stumbled back, and was struck in succession by lighting and fire from the Colonel and a psychic assault from Gimlak. Smoking, dazed, and badly injured, the giant breathed heavy as he took slow and painfully deliberate but ultimately fruitless swings of his paddle and hook, which were ducked and blocked by the Colonel and Kahru, holding firm at the doorway.

OOC: I think that my update to my notes file didn't save after the Short Rest. Have a look at your line and tell me if you see any glaring issues. I think I have it fixed now.

Brushin' off the disappointments of that last shot, Doc first two more volleys past his amigos and straight into the Big Ugly 'for he can do more damage.

The Colonel is poised to strike, when the echo of two shots rings in his ear, as Doc fires past him and into the heart of the giant before him. The giant's body collapses in front of him.

"Good shooting, Doc," says the Colonel before stepping over the corpse to make a quick recce of this room. They're not staying long, but the Colonel wants to makes sure that there are no foes hiding inside, and if there's any obvious treasure stores, that they are coming to reward the crew.

He knows there are more enemies below, but he's also aware that time is short. Can they get out without encountering the Fire Giant that is now upstairs (and should still be seeing to the attack on the perimeter of the fort? Or, with their rest, will he soon be coing downstars and need to be contended with as well?
