Legend
By this time the crew were both fully recovered, and the had put the Little Star through its paces, learning its new peculiarities. They were emboldened to test their skills and the Captain replied after a moment's thought while observing the structure which was perched on a pillar in a pool of lava, "I think we are up to the task of setting down on that pillar. Helm! Make it so. Easy as she goes."

Angis grumbled about his mix-up that resulted in the loss of the stern, but he otherwise seemed unharmed. The cold of the trip didn’t bother him. He was used to chilly and thin air from living in the mountains, but he did spend a lot leaning over the rail being airsick. Why did he ever leave the ground!

On sighting the city, the dwarven ranger was glad the trip was over and they might finally get on good, solid ground where any sensible dwarf belonged!

"Do we really need to drop down into the center of the event? We could check the palace on the left or that circular space - maybe dedicated to their gods?"

OOC: 'palace' is that big building in line with the circle center, but on the far left. We don't need to go exploring anything else, just playing devils advocate here :)

Legend
Qawasha answered Rodrigo, "Omu was once a jewel in Chult’s crown. Built over rich mineral veins, the city garnered wealth in abundance. Omuan jewelry was coveted far and wide, and the city’s merchants grew fat on commerce. To enter Omu, it was said, was to enter the gates of paradise itself. But such wealth brought greed: Omu’s hunger for slaves made her rulers demand ever greater tribute from their neighbors. When their vassals couldn’t pay in flesh, they paid in blood. Omu’s feared legions marched across Chult, even to threaten Great Mezro.

The Omuans’ greed and hubris angered Ubtao, causing him to turn his back on Omu. The Omuan clerics lost their spells, and the city fell to sickness and disease. Slave uprisings wracked Omu, and its nobles fled in droves. Maps showing Omu’s location were destroyed, and its coins were melted down and reminted. Fallen from grace, Omu became known as the Forbidden City.

Still, the Omuans remained. It is said that they turned to Trickster Gods for guidance. Untrustworthy animal spirits who demanded terrible trials and sacrifice in exchange for power. Loyal to Ubtao, Mezro had the stones of the roads that led to the Forbidden City torn up, and the jungle reclaimed the ways. After Mezro fell, and Ubtao left us, we began to call it the Lost City. Gone from all memory."

Dellrak listened to Qawasa’s history lesson. “Sounds like they got wot they deserved,” the dwarven ranger commented. “Think they’re still doon there? Waitin’ on new victims t’ tear the ‘earts oot o’?” He studied the ruins carefully. They were pretty visible and exposed up here. Maybe the canopy would keep them from being noticed?

Legend
Qawasha answered Dellrak (regarding if Omuans still existed), "I rather hope not. And yet, I highly doubt the city to be wholly abandoned."

The captain agreed with Dellrak (regarding potential exposure), so she ordered a course (rather than directly for the Pillar, which would cross over the city) one that circled from the northwest corner, working southward over the jungle above the cliffs. In this way, the Little Star headed for the pillar in the centre of the lava flow, and yet, nearly everyone peered over the side with great interest.

The first sight to behold, was when the ship passed a crumbling old Amphitheatre. Lying lazily in the sun, preening its enormous feathers, was the largest bird-like beast (Tyrannosaur) that anyone aboard had ever seen. It was beautiful and terrifying, and it took no notice of the ship whatsoever, resting as it was in the heat of the day.

There was activity in the city to be sure, but much of it kept low to the ground (perhaps to avoid the notice of the great beast). The Little Star kept far enough away that it was difficult to make out the specifics of the movement that was spotted, but movement there was. Certainly some of it was humanoid.

As the ship passed near the Palace, Myrral made his suggestion. Captain Bravewing was reluctant to change her orders, but she shrugged and raised an eyebrow to the others to see if there was any consensus.

OOC: Want to drop down to the palace? One of the advantages of going to the Pillar, would be that it would make a pretty safe base from which to expand your way outward. You really don't know what you're looking for, right?

OOC: My instinct had been to try the amphitheatre as a possible place to land, but given that it's inhabited, Miss Imogen will keep silent, trusting others.
