D&D 5E (IC) Scourge of Daggerford

Snake wakes up and stretches his stomach seemed to have handled the previous night’s meal fairly well. He thought of leaving a note but then realized there would be no one to read it.

Humming a little song to himself he headed out the door and made his way to local apothecary, if he was to go on an adventure it would be nice to have a healing potion or two with him as he had not quiet been able to make any himself.

Angis & Snake

Angis set out to pick up a few healing potions. There were three places he expected to find them: Helmick's Herbs and Oddments, Harvest House, and Morninglow Tower. As the herb-shop was right across Field's Lane from the Happy Cow, he checked there first.

Upon entering the shop, which was floor-to-ceiling with knick-knacks, jars, baubles, and odd-smelling roots, he found that Snake was already there, speaking to his friend Helmick Howager, and buying the only two healing potions that the half-elf had on hand.

Angis was not fond of Luc Sunbright, the self-important and blustery priest of Amaunator at Morninglow Tower, so he set off for the humble Harvest House. Finished his business with Helmick, Snake accompanied the dwarf. They were rounding the corner onto Farmer's Road when a number of pigeons flew overhead. Angis ducked, protecting his beard Snake licked his lips, but the birds flew over the roof of the temple and into the inner courtyard.

Upon entering the temple, they found the priest and her three assistants collecting up the pigeons and checking them for messages. "Nothing. Not here, either. Not this one."

It was soon explained that the birds were all messenger pigeons from a town upriver called Julkoun. The priestess Hadeshah, regularly traded messages with her counterpart in Julkoun, a man named Estor. But over the last few hours, all of the birds had returned to Daggerford with no messages.

"I am very concerned for Estor and Julkoun, with goblin raiders about. I spoke with one of the birds earlier, by Chauntea's blessing, and all it could tell me was that Estor had let them all go. It didn't know why." said Hadeshah, in her usual quiet manor.

OOC: I don't think I've done this one...

GM: Places of Daggerford: Harvest House (Area 4)
The temple to Chauntea is a large building with an open courtyard in the middle, lush with plants. Its chief priest, the human female Hadeshah, has three young assistants to help her in the tasks of blessing fields and animal husbandry. Hadeshah grew up in the small hamlet of Gillian’s Hill, and she was accustomed to following her faith at family farms. She’s never taken well to speaking before large crowds or to daily life in town. When not far afield helping a farmer through lambing or joining a communal wheat harvest, she spends her time in the relative quiet of the temple garden.

“Huh,” Angis said after he heard the plight of Hadeshah and her pigeons. “Julkoun? Well, me an’ a party are ‘eadin’ upriver. Gaein’ t’ see if we c’n find where those gobbies came from. As Tommi made to leave, she stopped him and said, "Look, Tom. I know I can be... critical of you. But I want you to know..." she trailed off, changing what she was going to say, "Just be careful out there, okay? Your mother needs you."

Tommi walks backward out of the Marshal's office, with a wink: "Don't worry, Sher, I'm always careful." He stumbles over the doorpost, but doesn't fall over.

Tommi turns around. He finds his companions, and shares what he knows. He's ready to go.

Dandin grinned at the unexpected surprise. He nods back at Nigel as he thinks about it and decides to do something nice in return. "Well I can't argue with that. Please tell them that we're humbled by their offer and will do our best to earn the respect. In the meantime, I can't leave them working on our behalf without some form of compensation. If they won't take any coin, then how about keeping them fed while they're about the business? You think ten gold ought to be enough to pay for some hot lunches?"

Dandin

Nigel Sullerton smiled, "I think that would do nicely. I expect you will continue to have a great many friends among the hard-working river folk. Good luck on your exploits to the east."

Angis

"I can give you two healing potions as a token of my gratitude in advance for your help regarding Estor. I can sell you three others, if you need them." offered Hadeshah, with gratitude.

One of her acolytes, went to fetch the potions. Angis suddenly recognised her as the young halfling woman who had befriended Lionel - Marigold was her name. She returned with one more potion than she was requested to bring. "Please, sir. Give this potion to Lionel Hardcheese, and tell him to be careful out there." she asked of Angis. (She had been bolder with Lionel, but she found the dwarf intimidating.)

OOC: 50 gold per potion (up to three), aside from the three you get for free. (same for Snake, when he bought two from Helmick).

“Well, unfortunately, I find meself a wee bit short on ready cash,” Angis said forlornly, eying the sixteen gold pieces in his pouch. “I’ll ‘ave t’ settle f’r jus’ these three. I’ll make sure Lionel gets one,” he promised Marigold.

OOC: Lionel, feel free to mark down the healing potion. We can assume it happens “off screen” rather than try and remember to hand it over and forget!

"Never hurts to have friends on the river. Good day to you sir, I have a few other stops to make before we leave on our 'grand adventure'."

Dandin shook hands with Nigel one last time and left him with the agreed upon gold. His next stop turned out to have already been visited, so he moved on to other prospective sources. He stopped off at the Temple of Tymora and offered a 10 gold piece donation along the way before coming up to the Harvest House. Gold pouch in-hand he stepped inside.

OOC: Thanks to the discount on the repairs, Dandin can afford the potions flat out. He would haggle if given the opportunity but upon finding out that they got some free potions will pay full price without a complaint.

Ensemble

When everyone had finished their preparations to depart, they met at the Farmer's Gate on the City's north wall. By this time word had travelled that the Heroes of Southbank had formed an adventuring company, and that they were bound to "take the fight to the very heart of the goblins' dark lair" (where exactly that might be, the rumours were less clear).

A small crowd had gathered at the gate to see them off, and their were many shouts of "Huzzah!" and "Tymora bless you!". As the group moved through the crowd and out the gate, Drui the Dwarf Cleric of Tempus appeared from near the gate and fell in behind Dandin's rolling cart.

Soon they were off, following farm roads that were initially familiar to most of them (to varying degrees), heading north-east. The well-wishes of the crowd, and the walls of the city, quickly faded behind them.
