I don't see why not. Not like WoTC is gonna send a squadron of Storm Troopers to your house to kick down your door if you're using this miniature for the Sword of Heironeous...

... rather than this one.

Will you be able to use that Reaper fig in League play? No. But unless that's the draw point for you, I don't see how it's a problem.

you know, if you had asked this question last week, i would have said, "Yes! definitely!"

with the recent changes at WOTC, i'm not sure i want to buy anything from them.

Nope. I suspect I'm just not part of the target market (whoever that is)

I don't use miniatures in D&D now. I rarely have. I don't feel the need. They are kind of neat once in a while but they seem to slow the game down too much for my taste. I therefore don't need bunches of figures for roleplaying.

I didn't buy MageKnight, HeroClix, Warhammer, or Chainmail. I don't see why I should buy this just for the D&D logo.
If anything the D&D Miniatures seem like a less origional ripoff of what WizKids is doing.

The question's actually about the D&D Miniatures Handbook. Have you seen the Excerpt for it that WoTC put up on their website, today? If not, here's the link.

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20030906a

It's about 50% material for miniature combat, and 50% material for D&D games, with 4 new Core Classes, new Prestige Classes, Feats, Spells, Magic Items, Monsters, etc.

really depends on the mass combat rules i suspect.

The straight DnD stuff looked cool enough, but not really that appropriate for my game.

I'm definately curious to see what the mass combat rules are like in the book. If they're good, I'd be willing to pick it up just for those.

Mass combat is what is going to make me decide as well.

I looked at Chainmail and could not figure out why anyone would need the system, it did not fill a nich that needed filling, maybe this will. (Though I will most likely avoid the associatet figures...)

The Auld Grump, grumping grumpily...
