On the one hand I would like to have less streaming services. On the other hand I don't want media monopolies. Ugh
I like what Amazon has done. You still have to pay for each service but they're all in one place. I watch Paramount and Apple TV through Amazon prime video. You can even sign up for PBS streaming through them.

Works for some services (I too subscribe to Paramount+ through Prime when they have new Star Trek on), but not for others. I tried subscribing to Crunchyroll through them, and the things they do to subtitles (on shows that are perfectly well subbed on Crunchyroll directly mind you) are just abominable.

That's strange. Would that be the case with anything with subtitles or just Crunchyroll? I don't watch a lot of stuff with subtitles to have noticed.

Me neither. The anime shows that are on Amazon natively seem to be at least competently titled. On the other hand they've faced recent controversy for trying to add AI dubbing to a couple of shows.

I haven't watched any anime on Prime in over six months, but it still defaults me to Japanese audio at least half the time when I watch movies or series on there.

A lot of people in the TV and fim industry are saying that Netflix is bad for content creation, will kill theaters, and kill physical media.
Paramount+ is also of concern as Jared Kushner's Affinity Partners equity firm is leading financial backing for the Paramount+ bid with funding from several Middle East sovereign funds (Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Abu Dhabi) that financially invested in the Trump administration.

I started building up my physical media library again. Buying movies on DVD and Blu-ray. You pay hundreds of dollars a year for streaming content, but you don't own it. They can remove it at any time. They can edit it on a whim. A physical copy will be harder to do that with. If Lord Netflix gets The One Ring to rule them all at least I'll something to fall back on.

Moreover, Paramount has already tanked the integrity of CBS News. How do you think CNN will fare if Paramount ends up with WB?

Jake Taper and his book has made me question their integrity already. It's still my go to outside of local news but I'm more cautious. I would agree it'll get worse with Paramount, but what would Netflix do with a news network? What do they know from news?
