D&D 5E New Drow cultures coming in Starlight Enclave, the Lorendrow and the Aevendrow

I think I'd prefer the Greenshadow elves to be like they elves from Symbaroum, lurking in dark forest where light dont reach them, somewhere in the twilight between our world and the Feywild.

Jungle elves are just wood elves with from a damp place :p

I think that it's apparently the impression that Salvatore got and everything since Dritz has been influenced by that.
I think it's more the misguided attempt in 2nd and 3rd edition to try and discourage players from choosing a popular and overpowered race by imposing social problems: everyone thinks you are evil and will attack you on sight.

I've been looking across internet at all the places FR fans gather and I haven't seen them this pissed off since the Spellplague.

The worry is they are retconning Drow Lore big time, making all none Menzo cities disappear and the Dark Seldarine as well.

I'm not amoung them as I think this impression has more to do with careless PR folks who ****ed up and misunderstand the fan base, in their hyper focused hype the likely miscommunicated the Udadrow outside of Menzo. I've seem poorly done PR mislead folks heavily before. The Sundering Series of novels was supposed to be about the Sundering and outside of bit and pieces and The Reaver the series was really about the War with the Shadovar. You see this with trailers as well, hated the Star Trek Beyond trailer, it made the movie look awful, yet adored the movie.

Still if the rage keeps building this could get very bad and spill over into a problem for AFR. FR fans don't having huge parts of their setting deleted, again and so will lash out hard.
Again I don't this is happening, but the PR makes it look that way.

Internet nerdrage isn't going to derail D&D, the Realms, the next Drizzt novel, or the upcoming AfR Magic set. This is a small minority of fans who are loud in their cranky. D&D fans who hang out on message board forums are not even close to a majority of fans overall.

Every change D&D has ever gone through has been met with similar loud cries of nerdrage . . . and about the only time it's ever been meaningful was with 4th Edition, and that took years for WotC to decide to walk back (somewhat).

The new changes are an expansion, not a retcon. WotC hasn't been great about communicating this, but they have made it clear.

Love or hate the new changes, the wailing and gnashing of teeth will simmer down and life will go on. The new Drizzt novel will sell many, many copies. The AfR set will be a huge hit. So sayeth the wise Alaundo.

Why not drow enclaves living as scavengers in the remnant of Netheril under the Anauroch? Or drows living in gungan-like cities in the deepest abysses of the seas, where the light of the sun never reaches and the pressure can crush anyone not wearing a special charm or whatever? Or give us drow cultures for those who fled Corellon's curse by hiding in the Feydark and Underfell?
I'm a huge sucker for anything Netheril and I am 1,000% on board for an enclave of drow rummaging through Netherese ruins.

They would have founded these cities pre Netheril, and Drizzt is headed to Damara in the Cold Lands in the next novel, so that is likely roughly were the Starlight Elves are. Cold Lands

The Greenshadow elves are likely in the Chultan Peninsula as Faerun doesn't have alot of Jungles outside of that region.

Then the current changes would be the second time.

Because 5e walked back from 4e deliberately right into the "ugliness" they are now trying to walk back from.

5e dialed back big time on decades of developement on the "always evil races" to stamp out any nuances and put them firmly back into the "always evil" camp.

The had Cattie Brie be reborn with a divine edict from Mielikki to put all goblins to the sword. They flat out stated that slaying Baby goblins is fine in a novel for crying out loud.

They decided to dust the kingdom of many arrows so that there would be no more bastion of civilized orcs.

They made them into religious nuts in Volos' that go crazy over a pantheon that was hardly ever mentioned in decades.

Then marketing suddenly saw that these changes were not as well received as the, thought and now they're just doing a 180°

Ironically all FR fans wanted for the most part was for them to put the nation's and God's they'd blown up back, some of the goofy changes to "monster" races they made like demonic gnolls.

In trying to fix one problem, they are creating another one through carelessness. I mean their are already good Drow communities already and a good Drow Goddess (sort of 2 actually, folks forget El's Paladin Lawful Good/Lawful Neutral Sister who didn't fall from Seldarine and Zendilar who kind of resembles a more blue skin Drow).
