D&D 5E (OOC) Rise of the Dracolich (Full)

Since this is a game with reasonably powerful PCs and some of them new, are there "tricks/combos" that people have that work best if other PCs know about them in advance?

I have a few that are very good if done right. This is something that Kalorn would discuss with the other PCs, but I don't think it makes for riveting IC material, so briefly:

Hypnotic pattern is a great 3rd level spell, but it's not quite as I first though. The foes hypnotized aren't "vulnerable" (ie not like sleep) so the best thing to do is leave them alone - that way they keep loosing their action, and the party can deal with the rest of the foes in the meantime.

Silent image *could* work great as cover depending on GM ruling. An illusion that is detected can be seen through. So if I, after warning Alhana in advance about this tactic, if Kalorn creates a fake wall with an illusion, Alhana could shoot through it to hit enemies while remaining unseen... but the enemies will soon realize that the wall is fake due to arrows going through it. If on the other hand Kalorn created the illusion of a cloud of smoke...

Lastly, Thunder step is a *great* way to leave a fight momentarily - you (and an ally you grab) teleport up to 90 feet, leaving behind a 3d10 dmg explosion. However it won't work so great if an ally is hit by said thunderous explosion! So we'll have to coordinate to do it just right. (If Kalorn says someone should withdraw...)

Of and if Kalorn Suggests that a Foe should go have a bath, don't attack the foe as it leaves :P

Does anyone else have special tricks that work better with the rest of the party being involved/aware?

It's not like backpacks are expensive.

Mord's kinda broke though :)

Mord has a variety of spells that are creepy as hell but have proven to be rather effective. Also, he can counterspell but has only 2 slots to cast per short rest.

Yeah, Kalorn has that limitation too... but is there something that we need to know about in advance? Like "don't rush in because I will do X", or "the purple giant is our friend?"

Stay out of the darkness? I generally do a good job of calling out my intentions beforehand or making certain spells sound insidious. Hunger of Hadar is one of those in particular.

Mord's casting of Hunger of Hadar in the Vault was the fist time I'd seen the spell. Since then I've had F2F players cast it (Usually by saying "I cast Hunger of Hadar" and I've gone crazy with the description from my memory here). Now I have one player who's afraid to cast it because it creeps him out.

Sesto's Angels also made me see Spirit Guardians in a whole new light. I have a lot of fun RPing the Guardians unique to each caster.

Hunger of Hadar is awesome. The damage is not great compared to fireball, but when you consider the area denial potential, it's phenomenal. But it's not a well known spell I think so it's good that Mord is warning us.

I thought about taking it, but since my PC's magic is fay-ish in origin, I went with hypnotic pattern instead.

Right, and I see Mord as having come into contact with a Lovecraftian Great Old One.

Talking with tglassy about his patron for Scourge of Daggeford, I've been giving more thought to patrons in general. I probably won't go as far as to create full characters for them here, but I will give them some thought. Mord's is likely at least somewhat Unknowable.

I won't be surprised or upset though if you do fill it out somewhat. Not sure if your up on Mythos lore, but it'd be cool if there was some link to it. I've played enough CoC to RP it, I'm sure.
