Yeah, sure, that works best for pbp. If you win surprise(in this situation, make your dc 9 stealth check), you get advantage. In pbp I usually let player act first anyways, but in off chance that PCs fail to spot an ambush, I'm going to let the enemies attack first with advantage. Does that work?

@TaranTheWanderer Current surprise is very simple. The surprised creature has disadvantage on initiative. That's IT.

Yeah, that's ... disappointing. And weird.

Given some things give you advantage on initiative, and ad/disad cancels out, does that mean that if you can otherwise gain advantage on initiative, you don't have disadvantage? Also, it's going to be really odd when you surprise someone and they attack first.

(Not to mention it's not great for PbP)
