D&D 5E (OOC) Vault of the Dracolich 5E (Full)

I don't see any rules that support the idea. It would be up to DM's discretion. This rule set basically leaves a lot up for DM interpretation.

That said, they don't need to see the attack coming if they're already wigging out from a magical darkness popping up and hear more spellcasting going on. If anything, they're probably moving around randomly just in confusion.

They are absolutely doing that! From a purely tactical standpoint, all darkness really does is make monsters move out of the area, but I like to roleplay my monsters and make them take a little while to figure that out.

As far as the game rules go, I think they mean for the save mechanic to work slightly differently than the attack mechanic (more than just reversing the who-roll-onus). I think they mean it to avoid the advantage/disadvantage mechanic as often as possible. I've never noticed this particular peculiarity before (which is strange in itself, because I've probably played nearly a thousand sessions of 5e - but then, I've never looked something up during the game before, I'd normally just make a ruling (probably in agreement with the player) and then move along and forget about it.)

In this case, I got curious and looked it up.

If I was blinded, and someone threw a fireball at me, would you make me roll with disadvantage?

No. Why would I? We've established that it's not part of the rules. I agree that it's a strange case I've never noticed before, but there it is.
We can houserule it in, if you like (it certainly makes sense) but then we'd have to remember that we'd done it. <Shrugs>
The only reason I'm being rules-lawyery here is for consistency's sake. (Precisely the opposite of what you're implying!)

At any rate, I'm as surprised as you that this appears to be how they designed it.

I'm not implying anything, I just wanted to look at it from a different perspective. If you wouldn't have me roll at disadvantage, then the trogs shouldn't have disadvantage.

I didn't mean that in a confrontational way (it sure is tricky to communicate by text).

I meant exactly what you're saying here: If I ruled one way for players, and another way for monsters, I'd be being inconsistent, which was what you were trying to confirm. I would only rule it the way I've suggested, because that's what the rules say, and if we looked it up at some later time (like when you got fireballed while blind) and saw that it worked that way, we could then rule it inconsistently. (If that makes sense).

BTW, you can take your turn in both games, if you like! :)

Yeah to get back in the swing of things: I don't know if I ever said, but tglassy and gargoyleking can go for Pyrus and Bob in the Dispensables thread, if you are around.

Also, if everyone else is ready, I think I will stop waiting for the Warforged and get the Infiltrators thread going soon. Ready?
