Hmmm... that's the part I wasn't so sure of. S'why I was doing damage taken. That became problematic with Temp HP. I dunno... I will think on it. I'm not gonna change it mid-fight anyway.

Which reminds me...
tglassy - How long does your darkness last? Is it different from the spell? The spell I read has a 15' radius, not 20. How long do your Temp HP last? Until gone?

I think it's different because it's a PHB. In a real game, there is instant feedback from the GM, but this is not the case here, and it can lead to silly situations.

Example 1: (real life game)
Bob the soldier: I stab the goblin... I do 7 points of damage.
GM: well done, the goblin is dead
Bob: huzza! I move 10 feet and use my second attack on the ogre... critical hit! 17 damage!
Mike the mage: well done! I cast ray of enfeeblement on the ogre!

This is fine. Buut without instant feedback let's replay that scene

Example 2 (phb game)
Bob the soldier: I attack the goblin, doing 7 points of damage. I attack the goblin again, doing 17 more points of damage
Mike the Mage: I too attack the goblin, with magic missile, doing 9 points of damage
GM: (3 hours later, back from a meeting) erm, the goblin is ultra dead.

Example 3 (phb game)
Bob the soldier: I stab the goblin... I do 7 points of damage. He probably is dead, so I move 10 feet and use my second attack on the ogre... critical hit! 17 damage!
Mike the mage: well done! I cast ray of enfeeblement on the ogre!
GM: (a while later) The goblin wasn't dead and is a trained assassin. He uses his reaction to stab you as you move away from him bob, doing 23 points of damage. He then moves to mike and stabs in the face for... oh critical on a sneak attack... 34 points of damage!
Mike: I'm dead!

Huh, I thought the Darkness was concentration, but it doesn't really say. Let's go with a minute, then.

And it's 20' because I spent two points on it. I can make it bigger or smaller depending on how man points I spend.

I figured that out when 'Pear posted the power. Neat! It probably IS concentration. Let's go with 10min-concentration like the spell.

Yeah that can be strange. On the one hand, I like that it discourages focus-fire, which (while tactically sound) often leads to narrative oddities. Of course, it leads to other narrative oddities.

I will always assume you turn on another target, if there is one, when there is over-kill. It hasn't happened yet.

You did do it once on Bob's behalf. Thanks for that btw. `;~}

Oh yeah, that's right!

I'm going to wait for the fall save results as it may have an impact on what happens down below.

Good idea. He's pretty much going to fall on the snake. (If he falls). Not much room for usual D&D spacing rules.
(Although, I suppose I still left the spear damage in. I guess the snake is moving around them.)

So... anyone know where I can find a rule on monsters getting disadvantage on Dex saves if they're blind?

Blindness just says you have advantage to attack them.

It seems strange that you can "dodge" something you can't see coming, but the caster can also fire those spells when they have disadvantage without any penalty, so...

(Unless I am missing something)

I don't see any rules that support the idea. It would be up to DM's discretion. This rule set basically leaves a lot up for DM interpretation.

That said, they don't need to see the attack coming if they're already wigging out from a magical darkness popping up and hear more spellcasting going on. Ifanything, they're probably moving around randomly just in confusion.
